eunomians
Yeah sure, I've been gone 4 a long while. I had assumed that there might've been serious progress in respects to various reps. I guess not! What ever happend to the 1655 projects?
ubiquitous
1655 fell off the radar, D... I'm still waiting too

docblackrock
Yep no progress - also on my list and came up whilst Randy and I were discussing ongoing 1675 works. Just can't seem to solve the 'decent base case' riddle right now (aside from finding and paying $$$ for gen)
ubiquitous
Indeed... I'm quite surprised that there aren't any true 1:1 replications of this one; seeing as how it's genuiine counterpart's popularity has been gaining considerably over the past few years, I'd think this would be on the list somewhere... I can buy a franken with genuine 1575 for a couple thousand dollars, but to me, it would be much more fun to build one. Nice to "see" you, Ubi! Cheers Euno- Nice to see you too, my friend! Hope you have been doing well
eunomians
It is strange. I do know that the harcore 1655 collectors have inflated the market via snatching up as many 1655 examples as they can - and slowly releasing pristine examples into the wild. In essence, these collectors have created their own relative worth in the vintage circuit. I think, thanks in part to these guys, we have witnessed zero case replication attempts. 1655 is rare (we know that already), and wholly unique as far as case size goes. I HIGHLY doubt that any of these 1655 collectors will ever put up an OEM case for 1:1 replication. It will never happen as they need to guard their investment(s). Somewhere, there must be exact size information regarding the case size. This is what we should hope will surface. Oh and I guess we need a slowbeat GMT movement, too (I ain't gonna scavenge a 1575 movement). Edited November 18, 2006 by Eunomians
docblackrock
Somewhere, there must be exact size information regarding the case size. Euno, can you confirm exactly what other dimensions are needed aside from the very basic case spec? Width 40 mm (excl crown) / 42mm (inc crown) Lug-to-lug 48 mm Case thickness 13.5 mm. I have a professional acquaintance who has a 1655 in his collection - I've never seen it sadly as he is a bit of a safe queen but a nice guy. I'll probably see him next in the New Year, February I think (congress) but I could email him in the interim.

eunomians
Off the top of my head, we need the dimensions of the caseback as well. Wow, wouldn't it be great if your acquaintance agreed to allow his beast to be disassembled and CNC'd? I know, it's ok to dream a little, right! I will post more thoughts when I refamiliarize myself with the 1655 project. I have data somewhere on one of these hardrives.
