My Franken Rolex 16800

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I received my Franken 16800 which I got from a trade over on RWI. It is an very nice build with very nice parts, but its not perfect yet. I want to change the endlinks to the correct 501b endlinks, and maybe replace the hands by gen tritium hands.

The quickset date does not function, I can't change the date, the only way to change the date is to change the time. I am guessing this can be easily fixed. I don't know if I am going to replace the insert with a more vintage looking (faded to a blue color) insert, or just leave it like this.

The specs of the watch are:

- ST case, re-shaped, gen specs.
- TC bezel assembly
- gen insert with Tritium pearl
- gen crystal no LEC
- gen tritium dial
- Sean hands, relumed to match dial
- gen crown
- Yuki 3135 movement
- rep bracelet 93150 with 455B end links

Gen 16800 had 593 end links, not 501bs. The profile of the 3035 st case(if that is what you have, although it looks more like a 3135 case) needs to be trimmed slightly to meet the curves of the gen 16800. That said, a set of 580 ends fit the overall profile of the ST case a bit better and no need to reprofile the case.

Nice watch- I especially like the 16800 dial- that is the 1984-1988 tritium dial with the white gold surrounds- same print as the matte dials that preceded it.

With those ST cases and the tall lugs, I can tell you the 593 ends look like caca. I finally took off my 93150 w/ 593 ends and put on a Noob bracelet w/ SELs.

Hope the Yuki 3135 holds up for you.

Thx. I am guessing its wise to get the movement serviced, and cleaned. Maybe I could swap the datewheel with a gen version then.

The y3135 once serviced is a pretty stout movement.

I definitely recommend the TC 93250 bracelet if you can find one. Adds a more gen overall feel and weight to the watch and it matches the lug profile pretty nicely. Watch looks great btw.
