lofi
I tried and gave up. I couldn't get the gasket to fit the gen crystal. I tried modifying a rep one and shaving it down but it wouldn't sit correctly.
freddy333
Remove the movement, press the existing xtal out from the inside (with your thumbs). In most cases, you will need to reuse the rep xtal gasket, so do not lose or tear it (the gen gasket may be too large to fit a rep case). You will probably need a rubber-jawed hobby vice or crystal press to press the gen xtal into the case. Clean xtal & reinstall movement. I think there are a couple of threads detailing the procedure that you can search out.
live1
u must and the rep xtal and be very very careful not to crush it in the press
irolexu
There has to be a better way...so just pop it out from the back side and press it in from the front side? Will using a press crack the crystal? Seems like this way is highly risky

Yes & no, not if you know how to use a press. If in doubt, have a watchmaker install the xtal for you. Better safe than sorry.
irolexu
Has anyone done this said technique of pressing it out from behind and installing from the front? I would feel much better if someone gave me step by step what they did to ensure a smooth instsll

I've done lots.
