Surpassed every though I had and everything I possibly had hoped for. Even better than this watch, which is exactly what I asked for, was working with H. He took time to answer like 80 million questions. Everything from how often different movements had to be serviced, to mods we could do to them, different options and ways we could take this project, recommendations for my wrist (its smaller), how things would fit together, ect. He was patient and never got upset with my pm's, literally one after the other. I tried to cut costs and ordered a case that I thought would work for this, and when it ended up blowing up in my case he volunteered a personal case set of his own, that was to be used in another one of his projects, to complete my project with as to not hold it up. I finalized the order and he checked in with me, showed me progress along the way, and made sure I was enjoying what I saw and offered to redo things if I was not happy. Not only is this watch amazing, but the price was just as good. For what I wanted he really worked with me, and still cut no corners. Honestly I felt more comfortable with this whole process than any other transaction I have made for any rep on any forum, including all trusted dealers. I can not recommend him highly enough. H is a top guy to work with and his watches are top notch. The thread speaks for itself. Henio Posted July 2, 2014 Author Report Share Posted July 2, 2014 Greetings RWG family :wave: I wanted to start a separate thread for this build because of how many hours and the many many obstacles and challenges I encountered with this build before it was finally completed. Normally I like to build the non traditional pieces and express what I am feeling at the time of a build, but for the longest time I have fallen in love with and always wanted to build the Flagship 6152/1 Luminor Panerai. These are the photos I was studying and referencing for this build: What I love most about this piece is its simplicity and smoothness. Other than some patina and age on the case, the dial is very clean and flat and the double pencil hands are lightly aged for a perfect combination. After almost beating myself senseless and spending endless sleepless night and going to work half dead this is what I ended up with I would like to thank Rob for sending me the case I used for this build. I posted a WTB add for a 6152/1 case and Rob took care of me. Although the case needed some serious work and was in rough shape when I received it, I know it was exactly what I wanted. The case began as a Fiddy case and had the tube tapped and Athaya's brass tube was installed along with an Athaya crown guard with the 8 stamp on the front and the Brev Ital on its rear. The case needed a lot of work and I completely reshaped by hand using files (no dremel touched this at all) After about 6 hours straight of filing, as we know the fiddy cases need much work done, I spent an additional 6-7 hours sanding and polishing by hand. I dont think the case set is quite up to my standard yet, so I might go back to it in the near future and sand and polish it some more. I reworked the crown guard, exposed the lever pin and reworked the ridges of the crown with a this triangle file to make the crown ridges super sharp. I modded the case set by fitting a River T24 tall dome Moulded Plexi and fitted a DSN polished finished OPB engraved display caseback from Night Watch. The brass dial is a Daytona 38mm shaved just a tab with a back plate. I painted using Tamiya Black and touched it a tad with matt black. I resin filled and vintage lumed using Holios T15-4 lume, and this baby glows!! The hands are Nightwatch double pencil hands and the engine is a serviced Swiss ETA 6497 with seconds removed, keeping +2 seconds per 24 hr, power reserve at 57hrs strong when fully wound. I mounted on a Gunny "74" strap with a sewed in buckle to finish her off. I put a ton of time and dedication in to this piece. what helps me out is that I am undiagnosed OCD and have to make sure that everything is done right, or I wont be able to sleep. I appreciate my wife for letting my be while I was working on this piece and encouraging me to finish it and stop slacking. Well enough with all the chitter chatter, without further adue, I present to you My Humble 6152/1 Luminor Panerai, My Wife named her "Sleepless Beauty". Case Reshape Crown guard reworked and crown ridges filed The Engine Swiss ETA 6497 2533 RP sneaking a peak.... Thank you all for looking. Complete case reshape by hands, cream RP paint job with holio T15-4 vintage lume, brass movt ring, cg lever pin raised, faux tall cp, Swiss eta 6497 serviced and seconds removed. This is what I started out with Reshaping the 372 case set was a pain in the A because the bezel ring doesn't come off and grinds into your hand and hurts. I obsessed building one for a while now and wanted to try something a little different from our traditional 6152/1 LPMM. I cant remember seeing one around, so I wanted to try my first shot at a 6154 LPMM w/seconds build. Not really sure, but here goes nothing. You can also see the stock River 6154 case set with a beautifully hand made "Box 82" strap made by Rod specifically for this project super pumped! I took my time opening this up for the first time. The box has an aged woody smell to it, the inner vinyl, or suede, not sure what it is, lol, is also dusty and dingy, just over all vintage beauty! next to its new home time to get this case set right. Blahhhh Phase I So I took a few pictures of Rivers stock case untouched I notice that his case has detailed line creases and is very squarish on the corners. I want to soften those up and give it the "pillow shape" look. I've seen a few different variations of this but I just kind of stood to what I think looks decent. Phase II After a few hours of filing and grinding off some metal here's what we have Still no where close to being done. I was able to soften and round up those edges and corners. Thank you much!! I will continue to post and build! I was able to finish up on reshaping. I took irates advice and took a tad off the corners on top of the lugs and rounded them out a bit. For those of you who haven't taken a stab at reshaping, when doing it by hand without any machines, you end up thinking that the smoothing of edges will never come, just when you get exhausted and hands start to cramp, take a break, have a beer and get back at it :thumbup: After an evening of sanding, polishing and sanding this is what I was able to produce Time to paint my dial :thumbup: oh and test fit the movt Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Henio Posted July 16, 2014 Author Report Share Posted July 16, 2014 So my case set is finally reshaped and polished While test fitting the Movt I realized that there was about a dial thick space missing between the movt while it was installed in the case set. This caused the Movt to rattle a bit while inside the case. I took a back plate and drilled a hole for the seconds pin to give it the additional thickness it would need to fit the case set just right when the dial was installed. Once I added the backplate, it sat nice and snug with just enough room for the dial so that the movt stem could easily slide in and out of the tube. Henio Posted July 20, 2014 Author Report Share Posted July 20, 2014 Somehow my final post and all the comments with it were deleted...hmmmmm....??? here it is again Alright gang so its all finally done! :thumbup: Here are the ingredients: All mods done by me *River 6154 case set completely reshaped *Daytona LPMM dial w/sec *NW Double Pencil hands *Athaya sub second hand, tail snipped *Hamilton vintage 920 (Swiss unitas 6497) completely overhauled and serviced *River Brass movt ring *River thick spring loaded bars *OPB text fill engraved display cb *8mm Brevet Rollie crown *T24 Moulded Tall dome plexi I took photos shoots with 2 different strap combinations. Special thanks to Stach from Stach straps and Rod from "BOX82" straps for custom making these straps for me. Many of you might know that stach has an injury and still took the time to make the strap for me using a slither of vintage goodness he had in the reserve tank for me. The stach strap was originally was suppose to be for my 6154 Rolerai, but that one was sent off to a new home before the strap was ready, so it might have just found its self a new home with the LPMM. A lot of time and work went in to this piece and I cant remember ever seeing a build using a Hami 920 movt, so Im pretty proud to possibly by one of the 1st to build with this? Without further adue, My 6154 LPMM w/ Secs- Hami 920 With Stach "845" vintage goodness, enjoy! I had these three lined up for a good member friend of mine and was able to finish today This is what he sent me He wanted me to strip it down and paint it with the traditional Rolerai treatment. Dial stripped Dial repainted and treated with snowflaked lumed indices. Hands vintage treated with matching lume Lume shot in the light Lume shot in the dark And here are the three finished projects. All dials painted and lumed from scratch 3646 Rolerai 3646 Ross skull dial LPB dial in a reshaped 6154 case set Sry about the iPhone pics.
