dbane883
To be conservative, I have always assumed that the insert I put in my 5513 was a MKIII. But based on a similar insert that is currently for sale on VRF (http://www.network54.com/Forum/207673/message/1403822194/FS-+MK+1+Ghost+Insert+Reduced+Price), I am now thinking that it's a MKI. The "40" on mine appears to be kissing to the naked eye. But under a loupe, I can see a sliver of a gap. That's what's thrown me off. However, all other elements seems to be consistent with a MKI. Can you confirm? By the way, my insert is naturally faded and still has a near mint tritium pearl.

pam007
There's some talk about printing pads wearing out and thus resulting in fatter fonts and fonts running into each other:http://www.network54.com/Forum/207593/thread/1363127528/Update+to+Bill
cc33
I have a long 5 insert that was printed with a worn out pad and it's one of the nicest I've seen. They are extremely rare too.

Nanuq
Dang, those are pretty inserts Here's a few reference photos showing the differences between a "hook 5" MK3 vs. standard MK3 insert, then the most common variants of MK1 - MK4 from top to bottom. dbane883
Is it Opposite Day? If so, yes!
Seacraft
That is a great insert and about as lovely as they get for that level of fade. I sometimes look at ones like that and think MK3 too as they resemble the superfats until you compare side to side. Due to the tool mark variations I have / had MK3s as fat as skinnier MK1s
