chuckfindley Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 Just wondering, what finishing techniques are being employed on the average sub rep? And, if any horologists or jewellers are reading, would it be possible to improve the quality of finish by using a hand buffer with jeweler's rouge? I'm mainly thinking of the case finishing, not the "real" finish work done to the movement parts.
Mendota Explorer Posted April 5, 2015 Report Posted April 5, 2015 Of course. There are tutorials that members have posted on all of the various forums on how to improve the finish on the case and bracelet. Just cleaning them makes a big difference. They are usually filthy.
highoeyazmuhudee Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 its hard to achieve a factory finish without special equipment like a lapping machine even working from 320 grit to 12000 grit , polishing compound and diamond paste on a buffing wheel, then some cape cod or mothers polish i can NOT gain that factory flawless polish. im sure there is also some learning and technique required to also get it right. mostly get rid of all deep marks from the beginning around the 300-600 grit phase
