bertieng
Intending to build a 201/A based on the 6497 movement. My understanding is that the 6497 is designed to have the seconds at 9, in such case what should be done to the seconds pinion with the 201/A dial sitting on the movement's top plate? Do I have to file down the pinion to let the dial sits flush on the movement top? Just can't figure this out....... Can any experts help? Thanks a lot. You can cut the seconds or use a backplate with holes to give the seconds clearance without touching the dial. I usually cut the seconds. You can have an experienced watchsmith remove it correctly or do what I do which isn't perfect. Use a nail clipper and cut it the best I can. If you are experienced you can also take apart the movement to trim it perfectly. I usually don't like to sand it as it could cause issues as the particles falling into the movement could harm the movement. If anyone has better ways please let us know. Nanuq
Another bit of Panerai insider knowledge. When I started looking at these beauties people were talking about faux CPs and tall hands and clipping seconds and volcano crystals and sandwich cases. The learning curve is steep, but it's not long.
