I believe it to be a Swiss 6497, any advice on what the problem might be before I take it to a sympathetic watch mender is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance for any replies. ubiquitous Posted May 24, 2007 Report Share Posted May 24, 2007 If the crown turns the hands in the winding position (and the watch does not wind), it's usually a simple matter of the stem not engaging because the set screw has come loose. ubiquitous Posted May 24, 2007 Report Share Posted May 24, 2007 If it's just the stem and set screw that have come loose, then it's a really simple fix. Just a matter of retightening the set screw, which is easily accessible with the caseback removed. One word of caution- Don't go too tight on the screw. flamemax Posted August 24, 2007 Report Share Posted August 24, 2007 Ubi, I have had the same thing happen to my Rolex ExplorerII (I do not know when the movement is, but I am pretty sure it is not Swiss, no markings or identification). I opened it last night to see if I could find a loose screw, no go. I can set the time, the GMT hand and the date, but it will not wind. If I give it a shake(then wear it), the seconds hand will tick for about an hour and then stop. What could be the problem? Anyone? I am ready to send this watch to The Zigmeister, or anyone else willing to fix it, but would also like to try my hand at it. I am very mechanically inclined and can follow instructions very well.
