offshore
Had a funny experience today,..... was on my Sunday watch repair market stall, a guy asked for a battery replacement,(like the other 28 this morning) The watch was a noname chinese shitter.. but engraved on the back case was: All Swiss parts. Assembled in China. On opening it, I noticed the old battery was marked: Swiss ETA Made in China. Didn't really know ETA was in the battery business!..............In China Offshore
KB
Sorry bud it was probably because it was old and corroded that you missed the whole message, they actually say "Swiss ETA Sh#t, this ones made in China!" Ken
offshore
Yes, If only that was so Ken! However this was a VERY new watch, ( under 12 months old, by the style) And obviously never opened. Which just goes to show that even the batteries are sh*t! (I have given up buying cheap Chinese batteries... you just keep replacing them for free) Now pay $1 a battery, not 10c, it's good economics if you want return custom... otherwise you are forever doing freebie replacements. And I'm now doing about 50 battery jobs a week (home & market) The flip side to the market business, is the amazing array of gens which cross your path: have collected a few, fixed a bunch more, and advised on values on dozens. ( Saw Oris, Omega, and a Pom brand "Majex" this morning) The Majex was a 1950's ultra thin dress watch, 14k gold, running great, Swiss movement.... and the guy had NO idea what he had! Also keep getting offered a selection of old clocks to work on... tried a few, it was beyond me, so don't go there anymore. But I do spend an interesting few hours at the market stall each week.!!!!
