Hey Joe doing some work on my Sub

Recommended Posts

The crystal on my new sub was not installed straight. I read The Zigmeister's post on uncasing his LV. Everything came apart fine. Popped out the crystal lined it up and got it back in fine. Problem is with the crown. I got it to go in about half way and now it is stuck. Will not go in or come out. I have applied pretty good pressure while depressing the release pin. I am afraid I might bend or break it if I push any harder. I was planning to send it to you later for oil, tune up, and CG work. I like trying to do my own work, but I may have messed things up. If you can offer any advice it would be appreciated. Otherwise I will pack it up as is and send it off. Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom.

Been there, done that! Pulling the crown is a little bit tricky. If you do it incorrectly, you'll mess up the keyless works and it sounds like that is what has happened. Last month when I did that, I took my watch to my local watchmaker and he fixed the problem for $30. It involves taking the watch apart partially and then reassembling it. If you have a local watchsmith, it might be quicker and easier than shipping to Joe who is just getting back on his feet these days and running behind. But if you're going to have other work done by Joe, look around here or on TRC, cause he is only taking calls at certain hours of the day and his email is backed up- it could be awhile before he gets to you. Good luck.

For minor issue like this, you may first try to find a local watchsmith.

That should be an easy fix.

If you decide to oil your movement, you may send it to rbj or The Zigmeister, but I think they are very busy and not accepting orders.
