UPO from Silix?

The Silix PO is different from the UPO in many ways, it has no ar, the 12,6 9 3 marker a tad small, the crown has an external thread, however it does have the correct logo on the new ones and the bond model, the rubber strap from him fits perectly, the UPO crown threads have been known to disapear or wear away never heard of the proplem on a silix PO, mine has proven water proof to more than i would normaly put a watch through and it is about $100 cheeper. Also silix is a great collector. I am sure they are other points that others can add to this.

Hi

Are you sure the Silix PO has no AR? Because in their website they claim they have. Also in other websites it is presented as having AR coating (for example, Trusty Time) and I guess it is the same watch?. Is the bracelet the same as the UPO? And finally, is this a 1:1 rep of the gen casino royal?

Thanks

1 to 1 is generaly a fantasy, this is a rep @10% the price of the gen, it is a different watch from the upo. It does not have AR at least i can definatly say on the Bond watch, The bracelet issues are another matter, due to lug holes being drilled in a different place on the UPO and silix, I have a UPO strap on my silix and the SEL required moding to get it to fit, when you put a silix rubber band on a UPO you need the perfect spring bars to stop it bending out at the lugs, there are numerous posts about it here abouts, For the price difference i would go for the Silix, only geeks like us and gen geeks recognise the AR and other small faults, you will never fool either no matter how good your rep is (ubi's daytonas excluded)

Thanks for the detailed response and explanations. I think I would go for the UPO, after looking at more pictures I think also the date font of the Silix PO is different (weaker). I care for this small differences and ready to pay extra $100 to have a better feeling about the watch. Of course, I agree that a rep is a rep and you can find flaws even in the best replica (for example, the wrong omega logo in the UPO, but this is really a minor flaw, which one probably needs a magnifying glass or a close-up pics to notice). Anyway, thank you.

Good luck and enjoy. I order the UPO 45 with black dial and bezel and orange numbers, but I am not sure maybe the white numbers looks better. Can anyone advise me?

With regards pumpkin or white numbers, that's not really something you can be advised on, it's simply a matter of personal taste. I would say that the white numbers are definitely more popular, (and as featured in Casino Royale) but that doesn't necessarily make them better. At the end of the day, it's just a case of which you feel looks nicer :) Something which the pumpkin numbers does have, is if it's put with a strap with pumpkin stitching, it looks awesome. White numerals with white stitching doesn't have the same impact.

That said, I have the Planet Ocean with white numbers and wear it on the rubber strap, as in Casino Royale.

Hello,

I have the "latest" 45.5 MM PO from silix, and it does indeed have AR coating on the inside, not the outside of the crystal... The watch has been running 35 to 40 seconds per week, for the three weeks I have owned it... I had to buy a pin remover to resize the band...those pins/tubes are very tight... I just love the watch, and am thinking of getting the orange one... the price, with shipping was under 180 USD...

Thanks guys for your help, I still did not make up my mind but for sure I will order before the weekend. I will probably go to an omega AD and try them both, to see how they look in reality and not to rely only on pics. Regarding the Silix PO, no doubt that they are cheeper compared to the others.

Hello, and welcome to the forum :) Sounds like you got yourself a good watch there. Have you thought about getting a rubber strap for yours? When I first got a Planet Ocean, (42mm version) I had it on the SS Bracelet, and thought it was fine. Once I put it on the rubber strap, however, I found it was so comfortable, I hardly realized I had the watch on, and, after that, couldn't stand to wear the Planet Ocean on an SS Bracelet (although I don't mind wearing the 2531.80/2220.80 SMPs on SS Bracelets)

I'd definitley recommend going to an AD to compare them. The Orange bezel insert looks much nicer 'for real' than a photo can capture. There's a somewhat muted quality to the color, it is not garish at all. I was given my orange 42mm as a gift, and, although I don't wear it, and to be honest, would never have thought to order (from only seeing the pictures) once I got it, it really grew on me, and it is a very nice watch. Personally, I prefer the black bezel insert/white numbers combination, but some of that is because that was the first Planet Ocean variant I saw (via Casino Royale), so in my mind, that's how the watch should look. Had I saw the pumpkin numbered variant first, then my opinion would likely be reversed. In terms of size, I would definitely recommend the 45mm over the 42mm. They can seem huge, but, when worn on the wrist, really are not so bad. Best of luck with your purchase :)

Nice watch Rayman :)

Am saving up for a PO / UPO... cant wait to get mine!

Thought about getting a UPO, but for the price, the Silix PO was well worth the price... lI put a silicon/rubber strap on it, but really like the feel and heft of the supplied SS one...

(The PO has replaced my trusty Sub (going on 3 years old) from Paul, as my daily wearer...

Cheers,

Ray

Thanks, I expect my UPO 45 mm with pumpkin numbers (I recompared the two gens side by side and to my opinion the pumpkin numbers looks very beautiful) from PT. I will try to post pics once I receive it. The Silix PO looks nice, does it have the correct logo on it? it is not the Casino Royal version. Silix also sell a black leather strap with pumpkin stiches for the "UPO", they have it on the gen also (look at the omega website) this may fit the pumpkin nunbers version.

Hi, sorry for the delay. I'm not sure if the Silix PO has the correct logo on it. As for 'Casino Royale version', that depends entirely which watch you are talking about, as there are two which come under that catagory.

The 2900.50.91. The 'standard' Planet Ocean Big Size. Black bezel insert, white numerals. This is the watch Daniel Craig wore in Casino Royale, and the watch I have. There is also, however, a 'Casino Royale Limited Editon' variant. Essentially, the same watch as standard, but it has a different second hand, with 007 in pumpkin at the base of the hand, and has a case back which, rather than the Omega Seamonster, features the words Casino Royale. This is purely a marketting-created watch to appeal to collectors of Bond Memorabelia. Only problem, is Bond would never wear a watch with his serial number on it, and personally, I'd rather wear the watch which was featured in the movie ;)

The black strap with pumpkin stitches fits very well with the pumpkin numbers, as the stitching and numbers complement each other. The only problem with this strap, is it has a 'square' end, and leaves the rest of the lug space 'open', where the Planet Ocean rubber strap (as Daniel Craig wore) fills up the lugs. At the end of the day, it's just a matter of personal taste :)
