itreeman
Guys, I bought this Explorer II rep a couple years ago and have not worn it at all..mainly because the dial and bezel are a bit crooked and I always thought the date mag was too small. I know this is incorrect hand stack. Anyway, since I found the rep forums I have learned a bit and I can probably straighten out the dial + bezel, and I think the date is supposed to be smaller than subs anyway...soo I just wanted opinions (good & bad) with regards to this watch. In person it looks great and I have looked at many pics on the forums of other Exp II rep & gen and I think it looks good...looking for some expert opinions. Couple points that I think are good: 1) Rehaut is thick 2) Rehaut looks cylindrical and pretty deep 3) Crown etching on crystal is VERY hard to see ... Thanks in advance for any input... Nightstroker
I think your safe using this ebay photo as a comparison. The CGs in this photo look damn good to me...to good to be a rep...
docblackrock
The bad news... Dial is not great. Print quality of upper dial text is poor and the white dials should have black matt metal hour indices not shiny 'silver' ones. Datewheel font is also bad - that horrible thick bold font. 24hr 'GMT' hand - the red painted stem has bled over onto the triangle, not a good look. (sorry but you did ask ) Good news.. A few mods here and there and you'll have a very nice Explorer
spa
@itreeman Just do something with your datewheel and you're gonna be ok. And if you open the watch and remove the movement, just take off that excess red paint from the GMT arrow with a toothpick. Support the GMT hand underneath while doing this, you don't want to bend it. You need a loupe to do this job well.
docblackrock
Um sorry to disagree Doc, but on my genuine Luminova dial from 2004, the markers are black indeed, but very shiny. No problem - I'm happy to defer to your ownership I just knew they were black not silver, wasn't aware they were still shiny too.
itreeman
Thanks very much for all the replies guys. Much appreciated. Regarding the trim around the hour markers. They are shiny black on the watch, I know it does not look like that in the pics but they are definetly not silver. Where can I get a better datewheel for this watch? Would a noob sub datewheel work? Does the date magnification look correct? Thanks!

bklm1234
this is an incorrect hand stack exp2 from the same factory as the noobmariner. It's an older one with the bolder date font. The factory later updated the date font to be correct. It's a most accurate exp2 in terms of the bezel, bezel font, dial markings, date window position, date window/cyclop position, GMT hand triangle (hand is a little fat), bracelet, rehaut depth and thickness. The indice rings have gun-metal color instead of black color. The crown is little oversized, but not much, better than the later version. It's really a very good exp2. Guess what datewheel overlay works it uses? Noob. The noobmariner, YM, gmt2, exp2 all share the same datewheel overlay and crystals. -bk
