Things are winding down....or up...or something

Ok....I just got a rep Speedy with a handwound Lamania (like/claimed) movement......who knows for sure what it really is. I also have a rep Pam111h swiss movement and a rep Pam112 Asian movement. The Pam asian movement winds very easily from the start, is smooth in movement, sounds crisp, but gets progressively harder to turn as it winds up. The swiss Pam 111 is harder to wind from the beginning and then gets fairly hard at the end before it stops. I actually like the way the Asian movement winds better than the swiss. Then I got this Speedy. It winds totally different, very nicely.....and never seems to bind up, even at the very end. I know what your saying.....its a differnet movement. It is a pleasure to wind each time...just feels great....and sound really nice too. What gives? Why the vast different feel from watch to watch? Any tips on improving the feel of the wind in the morning? ie...cleaning, oiling, filing down, sand blasting, bashing on an anvil...LOL

I wondered about this myself. I think it's the amount of total friction between the gears, how they mesh and are cut. My DSN PAM 111H swiss winds the same right until it stops.

OR...just get a .223 round from a mini 14 and proceed to destroy. Voila! No more sound.

both my gen 111 and 113 wind very smoothly and take about 110 "winds" until I hit the stop....my rep 114 with swiss movement is just as smooth in its winding but it only takes about 60 "winds" until it stops....

I always wondered the same about these differences....

Wow, 110 winds eh? I only ever took mine to 80, and you saw what happened with my DSN 112.

Yes, I too wondered about this. I attributed this smoothness factor to the differences in quality, from each collector to the other.

My tobacco-dial PAM 118 feels like butter being churned. Gorgeous feeling, no friction whatsoever. It was from a member trade, and has Swinese guts I think the chap said.

Now my Paul PAMs are like winding an old Gypsy moth. Slow, truculent, resisting. The Mini-Fiddy and the PAM 199 both.

Andrew's vary. His 113 -- silky soft winding. His 111hs, not so much. Same Asian guts inside.

Wonder what gives exactly.
