Lollipop Posted June 9, 2006 Author Report Posted June 9, 2006 Basic question: In which country is Silix located? I just checked the countrylist at my (internet) bank - I can transfer free of charge to a lot of countries, but not China Zhuhai, China
Pre V Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 How about the good old fashion way of sending cash? With such f*8ked up ethics from Paypal, isn't it cheaper just to send cash direct? I've done it in small amounts but if the order gets large....the envelope can get quite thick. But then again, why not conceal the cash in a cheap softoy?
rocket754 Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 When I sent Paul money through WU they didn't want to send him the money because his name has been "flagged". I had to fight with the lady to get her to send the money to him. There must be a better way.
lagae Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 ...my personal experience, being located in California. When wiring money to China (I've wired between $300 and $1700 at a time) the paperwork takes about 30 seconds to fill out. It doesn't matter if you don't have the recipients address and phone number because no one is going to get or cash your transfer unless they have the MTCN. I get charged USD $14 for each transfer. I too am located in California, but I'm getting charged much more to use WU. The last time I send money from a WU location paying with cash, I was charged $29.99 to send $220. Granted, it was going to Canada and not China, but I've been charged similar amounts when sending money to Asian countries as well. What do you need to do to get the $14 charge?
lancelot Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 (edited) What I just heard is that he just changed Paypal address Edited June 9, 2006 by Lancelot

My feeling is that different brokers may have different fees. For example; Habib's Liquor store may charge you $20 in fees, while your local large Grocery store may just charge $14 or so. It may also depend on whether or not you are using a credit/debit card as opposed to cash. Keep in mind that WU is like any business, when they accept your CC or debit card as payment, they probably lose 3% on the transaction and $.25 per transaction, so they are likely to pass those charges along to you if you are using a debit or credit card. Your best bet would be a Ralphs or Vons, or any large and rich supermarket who can afford to lower the fees.

I used a WU location within a Safeway - a large supermarket chain here in Northern California. I paid with cash, not with a credit card or debit card. Was still charged $29.99 to send $220.

vric Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 MoneyBooker and WU are too expensive for a "single watch" buy. The fee they ask is quite high, even after the 10% off dealer offer. Last time I tried WU, it was near $25 fees for sending $120... Any info about the direct credit card payment ? might be an option if he have secure access (using 3rd party, I wouldn't want to give my credit number to any individual anyway)

For thos people who bank with institutions who offer free wire transfers this would be the best option. Edited June 11, 2006 by rocket754
