Vintage Daytona? What does it mean when the moving second hand on the sub dial is at the 9 o'clock dial? aren't they usually at 6 Oclock? This is an auto winder but I laso have an auto winder FRANCK MULLER and the second moving hand is at 6 oclock? so it cant be the difference between auto and hand wind?

Back in the days Daytonas were equipped with Zenith El Primero movements which carries the seconds @9.

The more recent Rolex movement has the seconds @6.

Throughout the history of the Rolex Daytona, there have been 3 major versions

  1. the original 66xx series, which contained a modified manual-wind Valjoux 72 movements with running seconds at the 9 o'clock subdial position

  2. the 165xx series, which contained modified self-winding Zenith El Primero movements with running seconds also at the 9 o'clock subdial position (which was centered along the equater of the dial)

  3. the 1652xx series, which contains the in-house automatic 4130 movement with running seconds at the 6 o'clock position (which is raised about 1mm above the equater of the dial)
