crick0234 Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Thought i share some comparison images. Below is a gen LV vs TTK's Noobmariner (modified CG, aftermarket insert, and SOON, a bk crown!). I've always thought the xstal height on the gen would be taller? GEN ontop, rep on bottom gen on right, rep on left some additional gen eyecandy
By-Tor Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 The Noob is still the best out there. The front appearance is almost perfect. However the crown is always too big, even this replacement crown. Much better than the original crown though... which is totally ridiculous. Thanks, great comparison shots.
crick0234 Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 Oh no BT, i havent put the new crown from BK yet. I just ordered his new set of crowns today! LOL maybe once the new crown is up and running, i'll do a second batch. yeah the noobie is great - i love the little ring in the rehaught; matches the gen very well!
By-Tor Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Ah... for some reason it doesn't look so huge in your pic. I thought it was a replacement. Yep, the "ring" as you say... or "front cylindrical rehaut" is very important detail, and only the reps from this factory (Noobmariner, GMT & Explorer II) have it done correctly. No other Rolex reps (except the WM9) come even close to the right look. That is much more important than the actual rehaut depth to me.
crick0234 Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 it's really interesting, i found some gen images of LV on the net with higher xstal height, and some with lower: here's a higher xstal height. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2222/231162...0e44a54.jpg?v=0 the funny thing with rolex is they never tell people what they change in or out in the series. when it happens, it just happens.

Correct! it sticks out ever so slightly more. Hence the reason why aftermarket bezels need some sanding. But i heard from some gen rollie forums that even thte bezel between the LV and regular sub differs in size slightly... dunno if that guy who stated that is true cuz i've seen some LVs with gen black inserts.
polexpete Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Hi guys, i managed to get hold of a gen LV dial for my sub project and if anyone is going to get close enough to call your watch out on the rehaut the dial will give it away first. The font on the gen dial is far sharper and the black paint more glossy but the biggest giveaway is the lume. Is has a texture and eveness that even the best reps cannot replicate and of course it glows like a cats eye even in low light. The dial on my Josh "perfect" sub is one of the best i've seen on a rep but looks crap compared to the gen. But of course its a fraction of the price so not surprising really... thanks for looking, gen dial is on the left P.

They do a nice job baking the fonts onto the dial.
