Amazing football crowd

Last night, the AFL ( Australian Football) season commenced.

In Melbourne, (Population 3.7m), the 2 bottom teams from last year, the Carlton Blues, and the Richmond Tigers met. These teams, in 2007 were #15 and #16 in a 16 team competition.

It is said that Melbourne is Australias sporting capital, and for 72,000 people to attend this match, is, in my mind, amazing. With supporter memberships around 20,000 each, it is more amazing that some 30,000 non members went along , just to see a game played between two teams, who have not featured in finals football for many years.

Footy is back, and Melbourne loves its footy!

PS The game was won by Richmond, by 30 points. C'arn the Tiges!

Oh I love this time of the year.

What Offshore has neglected to say is that we have been starved of our footy for 6 Months, so yeah the first real game was always going to be a blockbuster.

The fact that Carlton and Richmond have always played for sheep stations when they meet helps too.

Ken,

Maybe some of our overseas friends, may not know the saying "playing for sheep stations"

Folks,, this is anpther quaint Ozzy saying! No, you don't win a sheep station, for winning the game....It really means that the 2 teams always play as if there was a huge prize pending the result.

If the same was said in New Zealand :p .......No I won't go into what the expression would then mean

PS..No chance the Bombers this year KB!
