spikey
Hi, I'm new to rep collecting and I'm trying to decide on a PAM from Andrew. I already made another purchase from him and I read his reviews but if you have other suggestions, I'm all ears. It's all a bit new to me so I don't know the 1st thing about the movements and if I want a manual or automatic one - I did read a guide on movements so I know the new Asian 7750 is better than the old one but that's about it. I just don't want to make a mistake with a movement that's not quartz. Regarding the watch appearance, I know you all must have more experience than me and can probably spot the flaws right away. So please help! My limitations are: Price - less than $200 Dial color - black Size - 44mm (base, marina, marina automatic) Bracelet - not important, will replace AR coating - nice to have I identified a few ... if you don't want to go through all of them I understand... Thanks a lot! http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...;products_id=75 http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...;products_id=76 http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...products_id=821 http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...;products_id=35 http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...;products_id=78 http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...products_id=343 http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...;products_id=42 http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...;products_id=93 http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...;products_id=94 http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...products_id=292 http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...;products_id=39 http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...;products_id=99 http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...products_id=104 Regards, Alin

sssurfer
Hard to go less than $200 on an auto, unless it is an "Asian 21J". That said, I am perfectly satisfied with all my 21J watches. And yes, Andrew is great in his service but not exactly cheap in his prices. I would suggest you stay away from logo models. Logo is just another occasion for unaccuracy, and you are even going to pay for it. The best bang for the price is that 104. I have it, and it comes with the best lume I ever saw on a non-superluminova rep. But the date and caseback are poor. Most likely your best options are the 111G and 111H. spikey
www.watch-silix.com Thanks, I'll take a look. So far these prices look way lower than Andrew's... Hmmm, are these the same quality?

Thanks, that's another thing, I need one with a solid case back... the see through ones, I don't know, they just look strange. Do any of these 104, 11g and 111 have solid casebacks? Do these vary between sellers?
spikey
Another question...I hear these movements may need servicing...can any watch repair place do this?
fitmic
Hmmm, are these the same quality? Most of the watches are from the same factories. I have a 111h from Silix with asian movement, and I love it!

Do any of these 104, 11g and 111 have solid casebacks? Why not just go and have a look at the links you posted? They are your 8th, 9th and 11th link. Do these vary between sellers? On a given model, Joshua, Andrew, Angus (Puretime) and King use to sell identical watches. On that same model, watches from other dealers may or may not be different from those. Often they are the same. I hear these movements may need servicing...can any watch repair place do this? Asian 21J are not worth repair, you can buy the whole movement for a few dollars. Not all watchsmiths are rep-friendly.
Sir-Lancelot
My first was a 111f from Josh. Why closed back only? The movements are not that bad to look at. Inaccurate yes, but lovely still.

spikey
Is there any difference between this 111h at silix: http://www.silix-prime.com/product.asp?id=1471 and this 111h at trusty: http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...;products_id=94 The one at silix says "Chinese Manual Movement" and the one at trusty says "Asian Unitas 6497 Hand Wind" ... I know China is in Asia but could they have the same movement and Andrew may just charge more? Or these are 2 different movements? I think I'm set to the 111H but I don't want to overpay (!)... I need to get rich so I can affort a nicer rep, maybe with the swiss movt ?!?.
Sir-Lancelot
I cant recommend Silix as I have never purchased from them, but many here have. Go read some trade reviews. My OPINION, Same watch, Save yourself some $. Asian 6497's are pretty good. It is a copy of the ETA and they are a very simple hand wind movement. I noticed the one on silix has a mineral crystal...trusty's has saphire. How would that affect me if I want a nice custom AR? Does AR work on both? sssurfer
I know China is in Asia A good starting point, IMHO. but could they have the same movement and Andrew may just charge more? Or these are 2 different movements? They are exactly the same movement. I noticed the one on silix has a mineral crystal...trusty's has saphire. How would that affect me if I want a nice custom AR? Does AR work on both? AR works better on sapphire because almost all crystal on a given run are sapphire, and the AR coaters trim their AR coating on the median refractive index of the whole batch. So your mineral crystal would either get rejected, or it would get a less than perfect AR coating (perfect to sapphire, not to glass). If an AR run might get devoted to mineral crystals, it would work good.
