Here is what happens when you get your crystals double coated. People keep poking at the crystal to see if it is there and eventually get frustrated and then "craaaacckk"!!!

haha oops!

btw, this was taken about 6 inches away from a direct florescent bulb. Cheif's AR is still impressive on the parts that aren't cracked.

Still looking for a replacement.

Eeeeek!!! I'm sorry about that.

Now I'm really nervous, as I just received my Chief coated crystal for the exact same watch. Damn, that thing looks really thin...Any tips on what not to do?

Advice on what not to do? Well one is if you think you might be applying too much pressure on the press you def are. Second. Use the correct die and Make sure your die is centered. Third take your time. And if at all uncomfortable take it to a professional.

Dude,

Your crystal might be scratched....... maybe.......

Yeah.. most likely.... it's got a small crack or scratch in it.

Sorry to hear about your loss, not good at all. Takes the excitement out of it. :(

Good advice. I always use the largest die possible so the pressure is exerted evenly at the perimeter...

Agreed. I had a die that was big enough but the crystal still didn't go in even so I tried to "correct" it by applying pressure to one side instead of doing the right thing, which would be to pop it back out and start again. Live and learn.

What is recommended - plastic or aluminum dies?

Heres a list of presses on WM sites. Any recommendations?

Plastic. Delrin would be nice, but the cheap one I have came with nylon dies and it's fine. Mine is just like EBay item number 350069110559. I can recommend it.
