I really gotta try it first.... where can i get one for a week? Or are there reps ;)

Pug, how is the multi-tasking? Is my info incorrect? I've only seen it in use a few times.

My current one multitasks very well:

That's what I'm used to and what I expect... so perhaps the e71 is best. I don't know how the blackberry copes with that.

There are very few applications that can run in the background. Mail and SMS works in the background, but everything else it task-switched. If you run a game of solitaire and quit it, it's state will have been saved to the application's sandbox meaning it picks up when you reload it. However, if you're running AIM and you go off to do an email or browse a webpage, you will be disconnected from AIM.

This may sound bad, but this is how the iPhone has the best battery-life of all the 3G smartphones, although it's still not as good as we'd like. :D

Thanks for the info... that could work in most cases I guess... how about playing music, while playing solitaire or going on AIM or browsing?

Of the reviews I've read, the e71 seems to have the best battery life though. 14 hours of GPS is quite something!

For anyone with the technical intelligence higher than a soccer mom, I would recommend the Blackberry Curve or Bold HANDS DOWN. There is so much you cannot do with the iPhone when using it for business. I have used BBs for over 5 years and I now own the Curve (with 4.5.5 OS with embedded HTML email, video recording, searchable email on Exchange server) and the new iPhone 3G. I didn't know that there were so many "advanced" BB settings that I relied on.

iPhone is terrible at battery, GPS car navigation, advanced email routing, specialized groups, special alerts for different groups, rules, sms, copy/paste, advanced outlook calendar intergration...the list is goes on and on. Stereo Bluetooth does not even work on it. It cannot record video or do Bluetooth tethering. It does not have voice command. If you really use smart phones as a tool to earn your paycheck don't get an iPhone. If you like showing girls your Facebook and MySpace pictures at at bar, playing games and almost wrecking your car every time you try to type on it then get an iPhone. I plan on taking mine back or selling it.

Think about it..I can get a BB Bold that does MORE than an iPhone, place a 16 GB storage card in it and actually have a superior business tool as well as an entertainment center all in one.

Anyone want an 8GB iPhone 3G with not a single scratch anywhere on it? I placed a screen protector on it in the store before turning it on and got a rubber case for it at the same time.

i do like how the iphone looks... big plus in it's favour is the large screen (downside being battery life due to it) for watching movies, and viewing webpages.

There are little things that really put me off though... having to use iTunes, having to use a (USB?) cable connection to the computer instead of a removeable memory card and card reader (which I was surprised to find is so much faster!), lack of true multitasking (wouldnt be so bad if messenger, music, and web/email could be run all at the same time) and of course the cr*ppy o2 tariffs. And I have no idea if it has native DivX/XviD support (or perhaps players can be installed, like CorePlayer on the n series Nokia).

Reports are that the Blackberry Bold is having problems with a bug in the JavaScript support on their browser causing long download speeds in a minute or two. iPhone is much faster. Interestingly, Opera is lightning quick on the Bold, so it's definitely a bug that apparently RIM are looking into at the moment. Probably have a bug fix at some point.

And the new LG KC910 really does look good:

The Blackberry Thunder/Storm (delete as necessary if you are in the rest of the world or the US respectively) is shaping up to be released in October. This is the true BB competitor to the iPhone as it will be a touchscreen phone. Perhaps I should hold off and wait for that to see how it is.

HTC Touch Pro has been released and is very similar to the HTC Touch Diamond but with a slide out qweerty keyboard. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 will probably be very similar as HTC are making it for them, as well as using Windows Mobile.

I guess you can wait forever for the next best phone, there's always a new one getting released! Or perhaps wait til after Xmas for price drops ;)

This long quest to get a phone to view RWG on the train is still ongoing ;) (and to point out the relevance of this post in General Discussion to begin with!)

The iPhone has the best-in-class battery. Every 3G phone's battery sucks, but the iPhone sucks the least.

If you want the best on-paper features, don't get the iPhone.

was just playing with a mate's LG Prada the other day..... I have to tell you, its NOWHERE near the iPhone (from the Handling and surprisingly from the case material and feeling aswell.... not sth. you'd expect from sth. called PRADA). The difference is soooo huge, I dont expect anything similar within the next 2 years from LG!

Previewing a photo takes 3 seconds, WTF??!

the LG Prada isn't that great, it's a fashion phone, even more so than the iPhone ! The Viewty is a lot better than the Prada and the upcoming one has most of the things that put me off the Viewty (and I got the n82 instead) - it now has wifi, hotswappable memory card, camera lens cover, and now with 8MP camera :) I tried the Viewty and the haptic feedback was good.

if it's true about a keyboard version, it could really make an impact in the smartphone market not aimed at fashion victims or those that want the latest toy. business users will find it more useful.

blackberry thunder/storm will be interesting to see how they implement their system aimed at business users.

Until today, I'd never seen an iPod Touch before (yes yes i know, I've been using my phone as an mp3 player the past few years...). I didn't realise the iPhone is a glorified iPhone Touch...!
