Hm odd. Don't get it. I've owned two gen PAM PVDs - 005A and B and neither were that shiny or that black. They were a very dark shade of grey and almost matte.

I guess Panerai changed PVD coating method over time....

Most OEM PVD finishes look to mate pencil gray, this PAM looks to be more of a shiny DLC black.

The flawless finish, shiny very dark coating makes me suspect it of being a recently DLC-ed PAM.

That was my thought as well, but this watch is for sale by a fairly prolific Paneristi for $12500 and is in 99%+ condition. He says it is the original PVD.

Interesting, B! Thanks for sharing.

I also would have guessed aftermarket PVD. Is there a caseback shot? I was considering doing it to a gen base. It is true that Panerai have used 2-3 different coatings and numerous sub-contractors over the years but that is the darkest, shiniest coating I have ever seen. Looks like Jack's coating to me - established risti or not.

I'm SERIOUSLY considering doing this to my 002D. It would look just like that one (base L dial and PVD). Hmmmmm....

I agree, if those photos accurately represent the color, I'm not really buying that as OEM PVD.

And check out this close up of the lug. In particular, the difference in color between the case and the screw. There could be wear on the screw from strap changes, though.
