drop
Movement winds but doesn't run. The keyless works appears operable with exception that the seconds winding gear doesn't engage - kind of weird. I can roll the seconds gear though and get it to wind... also winds fine via the rotor. I can't see anything obvious and am on the verge of tearing it down just for the heck of it... Any troubleshooting tips before I go crazy on it? Gears I should try to roll by hand, etc? drop
Could it be an issue with the hack mechanism, with the stop lever (hacking lever some call it? - not the yoke...) not being disengaged? My balance wheel seems to swing freely but it doesn't continue to move. I'll keep researching but thanks to anyone who knows a quick way to check on this - can I see the hacking lever position without removing the balance [censored]? drop
OK, my cluelessness doesn't seem to be inspiring many posts. Anyway, I have the balance wheel off and am trying to get a peek at the stop lever to see where it is and, as per an old post by The Zigmeister, see if I can 'jiggle' it back into position. Problem is I am having trouble seeing anything that resembles a stop lever... I'll keep stumbling along, but any advice is much appreciated. freddy333
My guess is the movement needs general cleaning. The balance, escape wheel and/or pallet fork pivots are probably gummed-up. Ziggy may be able to offer a more targeted diagnosis, but that is my best shot.
supermanx
Check the area of the keyless works with the red dot (this is the top of the movement with the dial removed). It provided tension on the winding gear, and is easy to pop out:
