old skool Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 I picked up this vintage Hamilton pocket watch. It's a very nice vintage piece with a great movement that is keeping good time. It's a shame to disassemble it but such is life. I plan to put it into this nice white dialed Panerai homage watch I have. I am also hoping to blue the screws and swan neck. I saw a DIY posted somewhere and I was inspired.
sssurfer Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Intriguing... Just, what a pity to sacrify the small seconds hand.
old skool Posted September 5, 2008 Author Report Posted September 5, 2008 Intriguing... Just, what a pity to sacrify the small seconds hand. It's a little sad, but I love base dials. I am going to hold on to the pocket watch parts and if I ever sell the watch, I will likely include them with it.
phaedo Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Intriguing... Just, what a pity to sacrify the small seconds hand. I agree, he should send it to me since I have a small seconds hommage it could go in I even have a swiss movement I could send back if really needed.
Logan Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Thats a beautiful movement, I'm looking forward to seeing the finished watch
Guest avitt Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Nice project. I've always admired the beauty of those old Hamilton movements, and thought about similar projects. Please keep us up to date with the challenges that you face along the way (will you have to enlarge the case to fit the slightly larger movement? will the hands fit? how is the movement secured? etc?)
earlgrey-erfurt Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 you do what i have in mind.... i stay really tuned cheers helmut
old skool Posted September 5, 2008 Author Report Posted September 5, 2008 The 917 is even larger isn't it? A bit more affordable. I have seen one guy put that into a 45mm rad watch.

t Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 hands will not fit... you need complete new hands case will not fit... you need to overwork the case it is not easy to build a custom watch with Hamilton... i am working now since 8 months on it!!! sure you can try it with glueing and hand overwork of the case etc. etc. ... but i am a seller and need 100% perfect watches - not a modded project watches.
old skool Posted September 5, 2008 Author Report Posted September 5, 2008 That is the IWC FA JONES rep movement How do you tell a "rep" IWC FA Jones movement from a genuine one? The FA Jones movement you can get on the bay for 50$ Thxx for the infoa about the 921 Is that for a "rep" movement or a genuine movement? How does it compare in quality and accuracy to Cortebert, Hamilton, Unitas, etc.?
