marcl
Just looking at getting my second rep when i stumbled on this watch. So i did a search and it seems a pretty good watch. But one recurring problem was the crystal breaking or popping out. Is this still a problem, or has it been fixed now? what do you guy's think of this watch? kind regards. Marc. majo1000
About to pull the trigger on this one too.. Asked PT about the crystal problem he said he never had any problem reported. Think it's one of the best looking Pam's out there!
jot9011
The 253 is a nice watch, but has some serious flaws IMO. There has yet to be a super-rep made. I haven't had any problems with the crystal on mine. I think the shattering crystal problem is more common with the Fiddy, but I don' think that the 253 is immune. marcl
It is a beautiful watch and like i say it really caught my eye. I was looking at the Breitling soh, as there is a super rep of that. But now i'm not sure. Is it worth getting an ETA version, or are the asian movments good enough, do you think? And what are the serious flaws jot9011? kind regards. Marc.
RedSoxMan
They only sell mineral glass version now, right?
jot9011
They only sell mineral glass version now, right? Unfortunately. But mineral glass is less prone to shattering than sapphire.
fat.tail.event
Some flaws... The thickness of the lume markings, generally too thin, but I am seen some overly fat ones Crownguard offered by most dealers is incorrect...I think Angus had the closest one based on his pics posted, but cant be 100% sure thats what you'll get in the mail. Take a look at the gen CG and you'll notice the difference where the CG hits the case/pushers. Subdial sizing is incorrect The crystal, as mentioned I think the dial is up to a v2 or v3...I havent followed all of the updates, so a search on that should clarify...recall seeing something about the fonts in the subdials. Nonetheless, I love my 253. This is my sailing watch (competitive big boat yacht racing) so this thing has taken a beating over the past couple years. Its been an 'I dont care what happens to this thing' watch and passed with flying colors. Direct hits to the crystal, no problem. Scratches have come out easily with a refinishing pen. Marc. marcl
Thanks for all the replies guy's. Especially you fat.tail, as it seems your watch has held up to a few beatings! Still undecided it may have flaws but it's bloody beautiful!
majo1000
Personally I don't really care about the flaws.. How believable is a 12.000 dollar 500 pieces limited edition Panerai anyway? If the crystal won't break it's fine by me Edited November 3, 2008 by majo1000
marcl
@MAJO you're right. I can live with the odd small flaw or inaccuracy, so long the quality of the watch is very high. Which one is going to stand out more, a well made watch with an oversized crown or slightly thinner 6 and 12 or an acurrate replica made badly?
