Tritium or superluminova?

  1. 1. Which PAM should I convert my 111F to?

    • PAM 1A With Aged Tritium Patina
      16
    • PAM 1B With Superluminova
      8

So I decided to convert my 111F into something more accurate to gen.

The watch goes The Zigmeister's way early next week.

And here is my question.

I have two options.

I can get both A or B series casebacks from DSN. And I can ask The Zigmeister to either relume it with aged tritum looking lume and change L Swiss L to T Swiss T on a dial or just relume it with superluminova.

What would be your choice?

Patina like this:

Or regular luminova look with closed caseback:

(Pic borrowed from Khurram - hope you don't mind)

Looking forward seeing your votes!

My vote goes to PAM1B but with T swiss T dial. I prefer the off white tritium aged lume to full white luminova.

Here some gen pics

Thanks to The Zigmeister for his fantastic work on my PAM1B.

- Notice the difference in the lume colour tone of the hands and the markers?

The Zigmeister latest aged lume colour is very well mixed and extremely close to the

gen

- Flushed CG pin

** Went for B series because the accuracy of the caseback engravements are

closer to the gen article with the correct OP, BB and production number.

A good "A" series caseback with the correct OP number is hard to find IMO. ^_^

Sql, you say you would like to turn your Pam1B into something closer to gen, not sure if you already know but that 2005-'06 PAM001B rep is one (if not THE one) of the best and closest 1:1 44mm Luminor reps aver produced.

Also, the DSN A and B series closed casebacks while very good, they're not on par with the good old closed 001B rep caseback, neither in engraving fit/finish nor thickness and required height.

If I were you I would leave it as is, really. I'd rather try to find parts and bits for another T-dial Pam, and have best of both worlds :)

But that's me, and you might have some other ideas and prefer some other models.

@ jitai, it's hard to beat that old-school DSN T-dial, good catch!

The thing is my watch is not a 001B but a 111F.

2005 great case etc but display caseback.

As it seems no dealers carry the 001b anymore I guess DSN is the only source for a caseback like this.

Cool, see if you can source B1176/3000 001 B-series caseback. I know it's the well known rep serial, but is also one of the best ones made.

111F from 2005 is also great rep, I'd put it in the same category as 001B. I'm guessing yours comes with A/R-ed xtal? If it does, one more reason against transferring this 111 into 001 Tritium :)

Whichever way you decide mate - good luck!

Once you do the B series for the reasons stated above, it's really a matter of personal taste. Especially w/ the B1176 caseback either T or L is accurate. The Zigmeister's tririum is spot on, and so would SL. Personally, I'd go with the lume just so you don't have to source another dial. W/ a T48 crown and a CG pin fix, you'd be indistinguishable from gen aside from the A's.

OK. Thanks for your input guys!

I decided it will be a B series 001 then with T SWISS T dial with nice The Zigmeister patina :)

Will get DSN caseback for now but will look for correct 1176 one.

Will post pics when it gets back from the Spa :)

Pubus, actually the main reason for the conversion is that I can't stand the inorrect looking movement that can be seen with display back. It makes me feel not 100% comfortable with the piece and as a result it just sits in my box.

Another reason is that you can't get such good case anymore.

And that patina looks so nice in the above pics.....

I'd be more unhappy with the blue tint on A/R xtal on a T-dial watch.

The case you have is great I agree, but would fit 001B-L much better IMO. Just slap a solid caseback onto it and your problem is gone :-)

cheers,

babola

P.S. this is assuming you actually have A/R on xtal, if not than all is great ;-)
