A lines is an old mesurment i watchmaking history

it's about 2.26 mm (rounded)

so for the som of the most common size in watch :

12 lines = 27mm

13 = 29.3

14 = 31.6

16 = 36

16 1/2 = 37.2

17 = 38.42

17 3/4 = 40.11

18 = 40.68

And now that i have opened my pocket_movement.xls, if things are correct in there, the 592R is a 18 lines.

the 592 is not 34mm its over 40, I had one of those myself.

And even if a movement is supposed to have 17lines, that doesnt mean it has the exact diameter of 38.42! I have seen movements which were supposed to have 13 lines for example and were a little bit over!

WM told me they can not be fitted, 40mm is too large!

I see that it has to go in from the top..

I would feel better with a 16 though to do it right..The 618,620 are availible but I have never seen a 616 yet..

Cripes... cal. 618 available? WHERE?

I have one cal. 616 and "met" half a dozen more but so far no 618 crossed my way... but patience is a virtue and I sense some smoke on the horizon...

Cal. 620 and 620R are fairly common but I never measured those mvmts altough they almost look the same as the 616. If somebody knows the specs on those calibers please do tell.

@Finepics - You have PM!

Cheers,

M.

Well 618 are "available" it all depends on the price you are ready to drop, the auction i posted link off ended up at 1250$ :black_eye:

for the 620 it's a 16 lines too the 620r i dunno

From that point of view everything is "available"...

anyway thanks for the info. :)

Meanwhile I will stick to the cal. 616 it is a wonderful and gorgeous mvmt.

Cheers,

M.
