I was in a high end watch store selling watches for 20% off list in the whole store. Good point, as the recent story of the fellow who bought the IWC that had a problem and it was promptly resolved at the AD shows this is not an insignificant issue. mwee Posted December 22, 2008 Report Share Posted December 22, 2008 my concern is more on the fact that if you buy from an AD with a proper warranty, you could always send the watch for servicing, polishing during the warranty period. And during the rare chance that it does break down, it can be serviced directly by the manufacturer. For a watch from Jomas, everything has to be sent to them and if you do send to a distributor locally, the charges will be quite high. Added to the fact that if you ever want to sell the watch, the value will be lower due to lack of proper papers. These factors to me are important! furthermore, to me at least, it is not that much cheaper! So I will still go to the AD. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Bossart Posted December 22, 2008 Report Share Posted December 22, 2008 (edited) My problem with Joma is as others have said - they offer their own guarantee and the status of that is VERY debatable. Also we are not talking reps here - but watches still costing more money than many would regard as "affordable" but rather possibly a "grail" watch. NOT to have the manufacturer's guarantee in these circumstances OR perhaps proper provenance regarding the watch, which may be important if you should come to sell in the future, I do NOT think is a good idea or indeed sensible at all. For this price of watch (IWC at $3899.00) - an AD offering maybe a little less but reasonable discount is by far the most sensible approach IMO. I am really finding those interesting and keep being drawn to them as the watch to save up for and one day hopefully own. The movements look really amazing.
