bertieng Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Is there any way/method that the scratches on the wtach hands can be removed/polished up? A great looking watch with scratched hands looks just simply awful. Thanks for any advices in advance.
Rolexman Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 I've read somewhere rust can be removed from hands with a Cape Cod cloth. My guess is light scratches can be too!
Guest avitt Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 I've been able to polish hands (and markers) with a Cape Cod. The problem is that it has a tendency to darken the lume (due to the oils in the cloth).
bertieng Posted April 8, 2009 Author Report Posted April 8, 2009 Thanks, but I tried cape cod before, it is not suitable since hands are not SS rather they are kind of brass with plating. Cape cod will remove the plating leaving the hands with brass colour.
freddy333 Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 I have not seen brass-plated parts for many years (except on very low end rep parts). What type of watch do you have with brass-plated hands? And I would agree with Avitt's recommendation of a Cape Cod cloth. I have also used semichrome polish with good results, but it will definitely change the color of lume (I usually relume any hands that need refinishing anyway).
