[Gen Trade] Rolex Sea Dweller "Z" Series for Rolex Vintage Submariner

Hi RWG'ers,

I need some advice here.

Just got to know a contact that he has a post-WWII Genuine Rolex Submariner with :

1) No markers from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock on the Bezel

2) Tropic Dome Crystal with no cyclops, no date

3) Tritium Dial

4) 2 Lines of Lettering at 6 o'clock: Submariner with 660ft = xxxx

5) No box or papers

6) Case is in good condition with no dings, Pearl still intact.

7) Backcase is polished with engravings at the circumference.

He doesn't mind trading his Vintage Sub as it's an eye sore to him with my Gen Sea-Dweller Z series complete with box and papers.

In your opinion, what do you reckon this submariner to be a James Bond sub, possibly a 5502 or 5503?

I have not seen this timepiece yet but will be viewing on Monday.

Will updated once I am able to verify the Model number at the lugs area.

Would like Rolex Experts here if you think that this is a good opportunity for me? If it was you, would you do the trade? Verification at an authorized Rolex service centre is possible.

Anyone knows the market rate of such a submariner at this point in time?

Appreciate your input in advance.

Does it have crown guards, or is it a no crown guard model?

Like JoJo says, it could be a 5513, one of the longest running Sub models, or possibly a 6538 or a 5510. I believe the 5510 was rated to 200m=660ft. 6538's and 5510's are typically worth more than a Sea-Dweller, and the 5513 vs SD is one that could go either way depending on age and condition of the two watches. The Z series Sea-Dweller is worth between $3500-4500 depending on condition. A 5513 could run from $3000 on up. Early ones could push $7K-10K, possibly more.

6538's and 5510's- maybe $8K up to around $15K. You probably won't get hurt on the deal from the sounds of it unless you have to bring a wad of money to the table!
