TeeJay
I have a brown leather strap I would like a few shades darker. Tried shoe polishnwith oo success. Any suggestions. Thanks If you go to a shoe repair store, or a decent shoe retailer, you should be able to pick up some dye which you can use on the leather. I once died a pair of honey-tan boots to a deep chocolate brown for a costume, and the effect was fantastic. The dye I used was in liquid form (like coffee with no cream or sugar), and applied by dunking cotton wool swabs in the dye (they came pre-loaded onto wire handles) and simply wiping the dye onto the leather. The darker I wanted it, the more I applied, and once it was dark enough and dry, it was just a case of buffing the boots up with a hand towel, and they were done. The one thing I would say, if you use this method, is to make sure you apply the dye evenly so as to get an even finish. No 'overlapping' lines, if doing two halves of something in one go, but by all means apply more than one coat to get the desired color Best of luck
