ltr
G'day guys. I am the new proud owner of a beautiful partly-modded SMP I purchased from Fireman Fred. It already has a gen dial and hands along with an ETA movement. I am thinking of also adding a gen crown/tube and maybe a gen bracelet. But my most pressing upgrade would be to get a gen bezel insert. The non-OEM aftermarket one on it is nice but I would like the gen. Is it a matter of simply swapping the bezel inserts over? I was told that only the SMP Chrono was able to do that. Secondly, can anyone recommend any watch experts in Australia who could install Omega mods such as the crown and tube? And finally, is Ofrei the best place to buy gen parts for my watch? Thanks, Luke
whitestripes
OEM inserts are not sold by themselves. You have to buy the entire bezel assembly, which is VERY expensive. You can look at aftermarket inserts, but the pearls are never perfect.
hooky
crown and tube is on some models 'needed'. I have a model which has a nice crown. also saw models with a very flat crown. but a gen bracelet? Have you looked around for the price of a used gen smp? They come for around 1000-1200usd. the way you're going with this rep will almost hit the 600-800usd. Then why not add the extra and get a used gen? for the record, I also have a modded smp. (relumed, AR-ed, movement serviced, better insert) but decided not to take the gen folding clasp for obvious reasons.
b16a2
I might have a spare gen bracelet kicking around near the end of the week. If I do Il shoot you a PM!
ltr
Thanks for the offer of the band. Good point made about the cost of a second-hand SMP. Is Timezone the best place to pick one up?
scotty
Hi. The watch in question I believe has passed through my hands...... Anyway - you can get a complete bezel and insert (with pearl) from cousins UK or Ofrei. It's not soooo expensive. Maybe around the 100GBP mark. And it solves all the problems at once, including the pearl which is usually the weak point on all Omega Seamasters. The question is whether it'll fit or not, and that depends on the case. The gen bezel assembly will fit the old school case. The watch you have is not the old school, but is a pretty good one. I think the gen bezel will fit. Do a search here as some members have already done that mod. Not just on the crono, but also on the standard SMP. What also needs checked is the bezel spring, as some reps have a different system to the gen. Again - do a search as I remember posts on this a while ago.
