bob bean Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 I was wondering if anyone has any tips on opening a case. I have this 5517 Milsub that I just can't open. I have tried a squash ball, a ball of sticky tape ( just leave sticky on everything) and even a pair of rubber gloves ( washing up gloves) and nothing. The case now seems to be smirking at me. Short of using a claw hammer and going in the front I seem to be at a loss. Any other hints? ps. I don't want to have to buy a Bergeon 5537 ta __________________ bob
offshore Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 ps. I don't want to have to buy a Bergeon 5537 Well, there are dearer options like a 5338-2F Bob, unfortunately without the right tools, you will not get it open. Best take it to a watchmaker, who has the right gear. Offshore
chubbchubb Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 If you only want to open this particular watch, do as Offshore said, ask a (rep-friendly) watchmaker. If you plan on doing this more often, there are cheaper versions of specialized openers for Rolex available on the Bay. It does not have to be Bergeon, although their tools are worth every penny.
ubiquitous Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 2nd the Bergeon or similar caseback tools- Worth the money, especially if more case opening/closing is in your future
r8833 Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 How tight should a person close the the caseback after?
freddy333 Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 If you are using a caseback tool, just gently snug, not tight.
