Been reading up on 16550 Explorer II's. Hard core collectors consider the rail 16550 as the only true "creme dial" Explorers. This is because the paint defect which causes the white dials to change over time was on these dials that had rail writing and white gold markers. However, I've discovered after reading page after page that the defected paint did run over into the early 16550 non-rail dials that used black markers. Although not considered a "true" creme by purists, I was delighted by the fact that non-rail creme dials with black surrounds do exist! Also, purists can kiss my @ss.. So my build began. Picked up some parts like a "gen construction" Explorer II case, a CHS movement (which btw is running perfectly), and some other parts. Most important pick up was a gen 16550 white dial with black markers. The dial I picked up obviously didn't have the paint defect because it was white as snow. Everything was sent to pbdad for lug holes and some pbdad-magic on the dial. Check it out Reference I used taken from Rolex book case set with gen bezel and crystal with gen dial dial after some pbdad magic Once the watch is back in my hands I'll update with completed pics. The dial pic pbdad sent me got me so excited I had to post something. Thanks for looking!1 point

Some very impressive photography there, with equally amazing scenery too. Beautiful. Here's a couple of photos I have for now, taken locally in Kuopio, Finland when I first moved here in 2007 I think...1 point

Sounds fantastic Price doesn't necessarily make the watch... One of my favourites, is a plastic submariner I threw a modified dial into. Every time I wear it, it reminds me not to take life too seriously1 point

One of the best looking reps I've seen. Sometimes simple is better. Wear it well.1 point

Someone like me? What is that supposed to mean? Please keep the insults to yourself. Mods, I understand that JoeyB is a modder here, and invented the replacement plastic insert thing for classic Rolex but even a fool can see the terrible trouble he's causing in this thread. He's obviously getting great pleasure from disrupting the flow of necessary communications between the people who's been grievously affected by the issue at hand. Plain and simple, it appears that he is trolling this thread for his own enjoyment.1 point

And still you will have a fake watch. So maybe you better save for a gen, or go for one of the rep versions (BP?) , fix the easy fixes and live with the remaining flaws. IMO, it's the best solution.1 point

For me definitely a F40 or 959. Love the Gt40 and also some of the rare cars mentioned on this thread. Shelby Daytona or an Aston DB5. Even the old sl300 gullwing. I'm more into my cars than my watches and have had some interesting cars so far. The most fun was a Caterham fireblade since then it went a little down hill for me Honda Civic Type R, Honda S2000 but for the last year or so I've been taking care of this And I love it. Looking to give it the 993 rs treatment soon. When looking for a new car I started off wanting an aston v8 vantage, then worked my way through the maserati 4200gt and gransport and finally settled on the above. One of my dream cars and the misses was great about it. However told her that I fancy a ferrarai f355 next and she wasn't so impressed.1 point
