  9. I just have one question fraggle42. Has Simon ever named his cat? You're quite right! Unless you're well practiced, slow and steady is the best approach for touching up your case metal.

  10. Once you get the autowinder off and are at the mainplate, it's best to start at the balance wheel and remove the entire escapement first before getting to the train of wheels. Don't start with the barrel bridge. That way if you forget to relieve the mainspring all you get is a run away gear train but no damage done. For your flat click spring and keyless works spring, the plastic bag trick works but is cumbersome. Learn to pin the apex of the flat springs with a piece of peg wood and that is usually all you need do either putting it in or taking it out. Modify your oilers by filing the very tip just a touch flat so that the oil drop forms on the tip as opposed to the side. Too much oil will spread and foul your pinions, creeping down the staff eventually causing a variety of problems. And of course never oil the pallet, just the front of the pallet jewels. But that will take practice.

  11. It's funny but the only time anyone ever noticed what watch I was wearing was in a dingy amusement arcade at the seaside here in the UK. I was waiting for my daughter to finish feeding coppers into a machine and I had my hand up on the machine just resting it there. A total stranger walked over with a complete at utter look of disbelief on he's face, mouth open muttering... "That's a Paul Newman, that's a Paul Newman"! I looked at him, put my finger to my lips and whispered "Shhhhhh" and winked at him. He smiled at me, slowly nodded his head and off he went. Absolute truth.

  12. Really?! There's no need to be a jerk. Everyone knows that I fully support using the experience of this forum's members. Just do your research first. Landman> my response was meant to be "tongue in cheek". I meant no offense, most members here have a good sense of humor. If you're looking for the best, then go with a noob. If you want the best noob, go with BK. He's US based. You can find him in the TD section. Simple.

  13. This forum is not only for experienced members. The only thing the "elder statesmen" ask is that newbies read and learn as much as possible, before jumping in and asking for help. A lot of questions can be answered by researching on your own. That being said, I think your question is completely appropriate. You're asking for a comparison of two specific offerings and there's no way for you to find the answer on your own. Hopefully, someone with experience will offer up some information. I would, IF I knew the answer! I can tell you the TT is a trusted dealer here. I have bought some 10-12 watches from Andrew and have yet to be disappointed...... As a newbie to this hobby, I think you'll be totally impressed with whatever selection you make from TT. Many members in here take the next step and begin to modify or even built their own "franken" watches, with some absolutely amazing results! I just don't have the skill or the patience to even attempt it. ;-) So, don't be put off by the first response. Read up, learn, ask questions......... Many will help whenever possible.

  14. I guess I should've added a wink at the end. Gee p, sorry I got your panties twisted. [emoji12] On a serious note; I've been able to get by on the search function. That's how I ended up with BK when I was looking for a DSSD. 99% of what I want to know comes from search on three rep sites that I subscribe to. Enough of that... Someone answer the Gentleman's question already!
