  6. Seriously dig this watch ever since I picked it up a few years ago. Serviced a few months ago again due to the flyback having too much torque! Odd problem I suppose. I have some spare parts for this watch that I am thinking about customizing.

  7. Hmmm...Where to start...I know you weren't asking for my advice on life, but I'm going to give it anyways... ...particularly in FINANCE...most see a watch as a right of passage...a milestone marker... And probably expect ANY Rolex they see that's just too new, or on the "wrong" person to be a rep. Remember it's their job to size up the bank accounts and spending tendencies of people. So...when they see someone who is 21...particularly an INTERN...they will immediately think rep even if you buy a gen watch. Upon meeting you and getting to know your situation in life...they will either come to the decision that A)it's DEFINITELY a rep, or B)it's bad form to flaunt a Rolex when you're an intern. In either case...they won't say "hey look at this rep"...they will simply think it and "know it". Now...you sound like a very nice person...maybe even can "pull off" a watch at your age...but I assure you, you aren't impressing anyone unless you plan to rock something north of a $50k timepiece. It's finance after all...rolexs are about as common and unremarkable as beats headphones at the local high school. If you must though....here's some advice...get a gen Tudor, a gen Seiko, or a Gen omega. Those are watches that scream gen...and are within your budget, and well respected by any watch fan. There's nothing wrong with buying within your BUDGET. Particularly a good lesson to display in FINANCE. Now...once you've been working for a few years...and have a client list to impress...feel free to go nuts on gens or reps that you like. If you must...get a TC sub...any version...tape up the crystal, remove the movement, and put the watch case and bracelet in a coffee can filled with screws, nuts, bolts, sand...and shake around for a while....then, maybe you have something worth wearing. A slightly aged Rolex that will pass 99% of the closeup inspections it gets (which won't be any) but at least didn't look like you went to canal street the week before your internship to buy some fake to try to impress people. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Actually...I take all that back....apply for a credit card and take your $2k down to the Rollie dealer and go balls out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. This is just my opinion on the service of the 2 movements. The reason I give for not servicing the Asian movement is because of the quality of the parts. You can buy a brand new Asian 2836-2 or 2824-2 for around $100. A new swiss is around $220. The main difference I see between the asian and swiss is the metal used. The quality of the metal used in the swiss is much better than the Asian. When I loop the asian parts I can see that the quality and finish of the parts is much less than those in the swiss movement. Things like the mainspring and tub, the gears in the train, the date corrector wheel, the hairspring, the yoke, the yoke corrector and so on. While you can certainly service the asian movement, by the time you get all the parts installed and put back together, you're approaching the cost of a movement. You certainly want to replace all the gears in the train, those cost around $20. The mainspring, depending on the age of the movement could be very weak, again because of the metal used to mfg. The mainspring assy is around $20. So now, if you put all those parts in, you're almost at the cost of a new movement, including the labor. I don't think I've ever seen a third wheel and pinion break on a swiss, but I've seen several on an asian. The quality of the metal used throughout the swiss movement provides years of trouble free service. While the asian movements of late have been greatly improved, and really perform well, they are still not on the quality level of the swiss. For the money, asian is still a great buy. However, if you have a major problem with it, just replace it. You'll be glad you did. That's my take on it.

  21. This is just a great looking watch! A super fast SEIKO without a date window is the best kind of SEIKO.

  22. Seikos are not cheap POS, even the cheap ones are good watches, just built down to a price. Start spending $1000 on a Seiko and there are some great watches. As for Grand Seiko, very few true WIS as opposed to watch snobs, would look down on one of those.

  23. Hello and welcome to the community. First, Nota Bene. All reps have faults/tells. Having said that a TC is very good out of the box and can be made better. I very much doubt any of those fancy people you work with could tell. Members here could, an Authorised Dealer could and a really knowledgeable and serious Rolex enthusiast just might. However all of us would have to see it quite closely. After a while looking at enlarged pictures online one tends to forget how small a watch is from five feet away.

  31. Now it seems that the dealers have caught up and are calling the Yuki/JF movements SH313X and the others SA3135
    1 point
  32. Firstly, you shouldn't of paid the premium asked for a Swiss movement because its highly unlikely you will have a Swiss factory fresh movement fitted, you will more than likely have a used, old Swiss movement with Asian parts.

  33. Hey gang! Exciting new update. I had a chance to strip down a JF Explorer with a 3132 and... its different! In a good way [emoji4] Several parts have been changed to eliminate the date function. It's not just a 3135 with date parts missing. They actually changed the keyless so that the crown only has 2 positions! Super cool. The distance plate for dial (3130-148), setting jumper (3130-230) and cover mechanism (3130-236) are all gen spec. The yoke itself (3130-240) is different and it uses a custom yoke for setting wheel instead of the base 3135-266 but it's a nice development. I haven't measured the seconds wheel or minute pinion but the hour wheel is different too! 3132 is on the right
