  1. That's an other special one made for a tue afficionado of unique pieces... Case started as a cartel 5513. From an old batch: lots of oddities in the details but after considering what could be done out of it the 6541 appeared to be a smart choice. The case was slimmed down, and more difficult: it was modified on the inside to accept the gen specs milgauss dial much larger than a sub dial. Bezel was crafted from a cartel 1655, and case back too. It was was shaved low done, almost flat. What can't be seen here is the movement retaining ring. The 2824 it held into a custom made pill box style brass ring clipped onto the movement. pretty much like the genuine. So the mount is very tidy, and the movement well protected inside. I will post some pics of the making afterwards...

  2. Swiss ETA is good, Chinese watch with Swiss ETA for premium price over Chinese ETA clone, generally bad. Because of supply issues, these are usually old, dirty movements, repaired with any mix of secondhand and Chinese parts and not worth the price. Unless there is no option for the watch you are interested in, always buy the Chinese version. If you wish, fitting a Swiss movement at a later date is a straight swap and if you source your own movement at least you know it is new or a used unit in good condition.

  4. Hi Everyone, After over 4 years and over 200 127s later I am finally finished with my order queue. I can now concentrate on selling complete builds on my section, I will also put them up in the M2M section every once in awhile. Now have more time to experiment with other types of builds as well as vintage builds. I can contribute more time to help the rep community contributing more time to the forums. And last but definitely never least, I will also have more time to dedicate to my own family who has been very patient with me. Want to thank all of you who have been so patient throughout the entire time, some of which had to wait a year. For those of you, and there are many, who still own the watch I built you, wear it in good health and I hope it has brought you joy! Here is the last build in the queue, she’ll be headed to Singapore…

  6. A lot of pictures here to share two recent builds featuring two excellent Vietnam made dials. The quality of these dials is getting better ever month !!! Look at the shape of the subdials on the big red. And the crisp print on the PN. Both watches are cartel based, with all reshaped cases, Vietnam inserts and genuine service T21 crystals. What you can get for less than the price of a used V72 alone !!! I sincerely doubt you can get any closer to gen on such a budget.

  12. Gosh, the day cartel will do engravings like that chicken will grow teeth... No. I refinished the mid lugs as cartel stock shape is concave and awfull, then Joe did the engravings. After his works, I rebrush the mid lugs with a tool of mine to achieve that very genuine like look.

  16. Gentlemen, First of all I wanted to thank all the members of this forum for sharing their knowledge and experience. I always had my questions answered here and always received valuable information that helped me build my dream time pieces. I have been a member here for several years and it was always fun to read your posts and knowledge exchange. Thanks to this forum, I have finally completed my long lasting projects and wanted to share with you some pictures. Special thanks to SSteel, Kenny and Whoopy for helping me with these time pieces. In the course of building these watches I have realized a few important points for the newbies: 1. These things are never perfect but they are fun!, 2. you wont get to build anything until you have waisted a few cases, fractured a dozen of plexies and ruined some dials among other things. 3. by the time you get to the desired results you will think that you could have bought one genuine piece, - and it is true, but hey, this is just more fun! Enough talking, lets get to my imperfect pieces. Sorry if photos are not perfect, can do more if anyone is interested. 1. 5513 Guild Dial. - Case from Josh - 703 crown and tube from Athaya - Dial from Vietnam - Dial, hands and insert dot relumed, aged with care and love by Kenny - ETA movement - Plexi Sternkreuz - Insert Dot from Ofrei - Bracelet along with the end links and springs from WSO, bracelet buckle from cartel - (thanks for a tip by a fellow member) - Graciously assembled by SSteel along with all the case works 2. 1680 Red. - Cartel Case - Gen crown - Gen insert - Whoopy Dial - Dial, hands and insert dot relumed with care and love by Kenny - ETA movement - Gen top hat Plexi - Insert Dot from Ofrei - Graciously assembled by SSteel along with all the case works 3. COMEX - Case MBW - 703 crown and tube from Athaya - Whoopy Dial - Dial, hands and insert dot relumed with care and love by Kenny - ETA movement - Plexi Sternkreuz - Insert Dot from Ofrei - Bracelet along with the end links and springs from WSO, bracelet buckle from cartel - Graciously assembled by SSteel along with all the case works 4. 6239 Paul Newman - DW Case - Gen crown - Dial from Vietnam - Dial, hands from Yuki - Valjoux 72 movement - Plexi Sternkreuz - Bracelet from Yuki - Graciously assembled by SSteel along with all the case works, including painting of the minute dots on the dial as per original. 17. It's a pleasure having you aboard, chief! You're a huge asset to our community and we're all better because you're here. Now kindly get out of the champagne fountain. Yes we appreciate your backstroke technique, but it's making the drinks taste funny.

  18. The GMT is now done... This watch... God !!!! It took ages to achieve but now it's finally allright. The hardest part was to get the handstack right. The height of every element is of paramount importance. If the lume is too high the GMT hand does not pass... And most dials you'll find will have the lume made too high, like on a sub. But this isn't a Sub! The dial was custom made in Vietnam on a gen spec plate with ETA feet. Roulette wheel, gen-all-you-can, meaning: crown+insert+crystal. Phong bezel assy. A big BRAVO to Joe for the awesome engravings ! Movement modified for the date and GMT to behave as they should on a gen movement: non quick set and non adjustable. Enjoy the pics, Rolojack.
