  1. When I first saw this watch it was just a black glob. Should have taken a picture right away. But here are the parts after I cleaned the case and still a little gunk on some parts. Looked like it came from a tarpit.

I will post some pics when its ready!

Added 6/12: This is the movement after being cleaned and lubed. I am surprised it ticks at 36k, I had thought the 17 jewel one would be slower?

Does anyone know about this? Beat rates of differnt Zenith movements?

And look at the straight line on my tester without even adjusting...

  2. Guys, I'm attempting to win a LeJour Superman on the 'Bay... it's busted but it DOES have the hands set that I need.

So if anyone here is bidding against me, please consider not doing so? The price has started to ratchet up....

That is a good sales trick Nanuq

    Nice watch!

  3. Can someone tell me where I can find a Rolex Submariner 6538 thick case to fit a 1030 movement? Any aftermarket manufacturers out there? I have all the other components just need a case, though at this point I would consider just about anything. I have combed the internet to no avail. Perhaps I should just catch a flight to China!!

    thanks in advance

    Have you tried ND Trading

they have some nice third party cases.

  4. So sorry to hear this. Customs can do anything they want and Narikaa is absolutely right. It is a great idea to see if you can get it sent back to the original sender. In general FedEx is the worst. They were the first folks to rollover when the whole Homeland Security thing came up.

Never use FedEx for rep watches - ever!!! Airmail, Airmail and Airmail...

  5. That is a bargain. I'm paying $2.50 per litre here in the UK. I might as well slit my wrists and fill my car up with blood.

I was just in Germany and there too about $9 a gallon, but its not only the big cars here in the US, we also have to drive so much more here. Everything is build around cars. In Europe you can very well get around most cities without a car and a lot of places you can just walk, plus PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION is at least available in a clean and efficient form!!

  6. WBK gets these Asian versions of SMP... very nice reps for the money. I owned a black GMT from him... the review is in my section, check it out.

    Enjoy! :)

I have the same one from WBK also and its my favorite Omega watch. It is the watch I wear when I go on a trip - somehow fits.

I only wish someone would make a better bracelet for them. I used to own the gen and the bracelet has many more parts and feels much sleeker on your skin.

It is also the biggest giveaway that it is a rep..

    Wear it well :D

  7. A Eu watchsmith would also be cool :)

Could only be a hobby watchsmith - with the strict controls of members of the watch guild nobody in their right mind would risk losing their business fixing reps.

A friend of mine has a small custom made jewelry store in Germany, no watches at all and he said how recently more and more people come in and ask if he can shorten a bracelet on their Rolex or Omega. When he asks why they don't go to a Watch Store they just shrug and smile..

He says 'ah its that kind of watch' and he is helping them and puts a piggy bank there for a donation to his kids. That is one way of dealing with it.

Recently he even made a screw in pin for a Rolex rep bracelet that the guy lost from scratch. That took him several hours and he got a generous 5 Euro donation. People just don't know how long stuff like that takes and don't want to pay. I mean really - it s cheaper to buy another rep in most cases.

  8. it is a huge stretch to compare this watch to a white faced exp II. Here is why I think the watch you posted goes wrong:

    1) hands and dial markers are silver colored, not black. part of what makes the white faced exp II so great is the contrast between the dial and hands etc.

    2) dial has maxi markers, but not a maxi minute hand. makes hands look smaller than they are.

    3) white bezel insert with polished bezel is cheap looking, the black numbers on the brushed bezel with just a hint of polish is balanced and clean.

I think even real white ceramic looks fake. black ceramic if done well is very nice. just a few of my thoughts. I tried to stay away from the obvious ugliness of the basic construction of the watch, and stay with design.

BUT... if you like it, wear it well. its your wrist, dont let others tell you what to put on it...

Thanks for your comments Urabus and you made some good points with the black versus silver hands etc. (too bad they are not black) So I am with you on the design flaws.

Even though - I think the bezel insert does not really look cheaper then the black regular ones that are - lets face it: just cheap aluminum with a little black paint on it.

But - is accuracy of a phantasie watch not an oxymoron - indeed?

I might just buy this thing, just to see the reaction that people will have to it.

  9. Someone's been toking up.

Well I just like ceramic watches - some people like bling, Freeman :D

I would only get a watch like this if it was real ceramic, not painted or plastic. Already have the J12.

Besides being a fantasy model - would it be different if this was in black ceramic? Just curious if the white look is what is turning people off. ??

  10. Well excuse me guys - but not too long ago somebody either here or on Repgeek posted a computer generated picture of a white Explorer II in just this white look. Everybody went "wow - that looks cool".

Too bad I can't find that post - it was done by one of the real photo shop geeks here...

Edit: Well I think I found it, but it is not quite as white as I remember:

Now guys... this is ICE COOL! :) By-Tor

But now here I saw a real picture of an existing watch just like it and it is: 'yuk!'??

  11. One other point: A few years ago I purchased a watch from a well-regarded Canadian member. The watch took almost three weeks to get to me (the postmark confirmed the shipping date), so I'd almost given up the watch as lost and concluded that he and I needed to negotiate a settlement. Otherwise, shipments to-from Canada have gone without a hitch.

The highlighted sentence above is exactly why I do not like to send reps abroad. If the risk is with the buyer then there is no 'negotiate a settlement'. But if something really dissapears this sentence will ALWAYS come up and then there are quarrels and paypal problems.

How could I be really assured that once I send out the watch there will be no trouble with the buyer if the watch really gets caught or simply does not get there?

  12. So far every time I offered to send a watch to EU at the buyers risk with customs I never heard back from the buyer.

I would never put my real address on a package sending a rep across international borders. Somebody in China can do that but not from the US.

Being myself from Germany I know that every time I send perfectly legit items to my family they have to go to the customs office...

Now - why do I not want to send outside CONUS ???

  13. either planning on wearing my daily beater mbw sub or explorer II

im not planningon taking more then 1

but will it get confiscated or taxed?

Same concern as me. Does anybody have experience what airport customs is like and what the laws regarding wearing reps are like in Japan?

  14. I just found this thread and have a question or two about Japan also. My wife and me want to move to her mother in Japan for a year or 2. So I was wondering should I leave all my rep watches in America because customs is thorough or is it ok to bring a few (3 or 4 favorites) with me?

Is it against the law to own a rep watch in Japan? Just trying not to get in trouble, but it would be hard not to see my watches for so long>
