  1. This is my next long waited project. The PAM 24A

Have been trying to gather the "right" parts over a looooong time.

Just dropped in a lello's date wheel. So, my question now.

Does the rep cyclop mag looks ok with the bolder lello's date font?

I got a chieftang cyclop coming. Should I remove the rep cyclop and replace with cheiftang's?

    2697934035_839e075011.jpg

Should I use the chieftang's cyclop or the rep cyclop is already good enough?

    Experts. Please help. :p

  2. Hi guys,

My PAM collection is almost completed. However, I still short a PVD Pam.

    I am eyeing on Davidsen's Pre-V 5218-202/A and 5218-203/A

So, which one is more accurate?

I am leaning towards Davidsen's 202/A but the caseback seem incorrect as the engraved production number is too small.

    What about 203/A, any flaws?

    Your comments are greatly appreciated.

    Thank you all. :)

  3. Thanks everyone for your kind words.

The Zigmeister did a great job for Duddly's PAM001A.

My PAM001B had been scheduled to go to The Zigmeister spa this month end.

I hope my PAM001B will be as good as Duddly's when it comes back. :p

  4. When I took over from the previous owner, he was trying to create a PAM114G (transitional model before switching to H serial movt, limited to 200pcs for gen. Comes with polished case and bezel but with brushed CG and E movt)

As there isn't any rep G serial see thru caseback made, it is almost impossible find one.

So, I convert it to F serial (polished case, bezel, E movt and a polished CG)

Now my PAM114F is almost perfect. I am very happy with the new look.

    Ingredients:

    - Davidsen's old school dial (better L swiss made L spacing at 6 o'clock lume dot)

    - Lume done by vacuum

    - Old school case

    - Palp's crown

    - Modded CG (Fit well at the side of the case with no gap and lever lock tight like the gen - no need to apply hot glue)

    - E movt with dagger swan neck. CDG bridge (this one is from the ultimate batch (Angus old them last time) with very good engraving not like the other version that has a rough finishing)

    - F series see thru caseback.

    Now for the pics

  5. Square case watch has never been appealing to me. I will not even consider at it if it runs on quartz movement. However, after a trip to the AD. I think my thinking change as I was totally captivated by the limited edition Tag Heuer Tiger wood golf watch.

With the mixture of finely brushed titanium and SS casing, this watch weigh super light and unlike tradition watches, there is no clasp to close at the bottom of the bracelet. Instead, it uses a black silicon bracelet with exceptional elasticity for optimum comfort (Silicon bracelet can be trimmed for resizing to fit perfectly). The clasp is on the main watch case where it comes with double safety (push button at 10 and 2 o'clock) integrated using a patented lock and unlocking system. Another special thing is that the crown is at 9 o'clock to avoid wounding the wrist during a swing. The movement used is a swiss quartz movement and water resistance of 50m. Dimensions are L: 37.5 by W : 36.7mm by 10.5mm thick. With its sleek design, light weight and wearing comfort, it is absolutely an ideal watch not only for golf but other sports as well.

This limited edition golf watch has 2 versions. Version 1 is the first launch in year 2003 and version 2 has a new facelift with dimple dial.

Left Version 1 and right version 2

    1568844523_03261edbc7.jpg

    1568844677_d5d0bb9fc2.jpg

Although both version uses the same case an silicon bracelet, the most obvious difference is in the dial design (version 1 has "TW" printed on the dial while version 2 has a dimples dial) and the caseback text engravement layout.

As I really like the watch, I know I'm going to get the rep. Not just crap rep but the best out of the box type. I did some read up and below is what I understand.

The rep factory made 3 versions altogether.

Version 1 (2006 model) is the best and most accurate IMHO. The rep factory replicated it 1:1 to the gen. It has the correct date font, same case construction like the gen, correct caseback and bracelet. The only flaw is that the rep factory uses brushed SS to mimic titanium.

Version 2 (2007 model) is the worst IMO. The case is entirely incorrect (too lengthy) and looks weird too. The caseback is also wrong. See pic below

    1569731510_5e37b4b2d8.jpg

Version 3 (2007 model) is an upgraded version in which we can get from most of the dealers here. However, there are still many flaws in this version.

1.The dimples on the dial is incorrect. It is holes depth of the dimples is too deep for the rep.

2.The hour numerals for "12" and "6" are incorrect. The numerals on the rep are too short and fat

3.The second hand is too long on the rep

4.The caseback used is incorrect. It uses the version 2 rep caseback which is for year 2006 not year 2007

Although I like the version 3 with dimple dial, but there are just too many flaws. So, I picked up version 1 (most accurate of the 3 versions).

Let see how the rep factory score.

1.) The rep factory offer the box (comes with manual booklet, warranty card and price tag) with the watch when you get them. I thought thought that the box is incorrect for this limited edition Tiger wood golf model, but I was wrong. The rep factory actually went all the way to make it best for us. Look at the pic below. Left is rep and right is gen. Same things you get for the rep. What a surprise!!!

    1569731716_0ed617fd2c_o.jpg

2.) Let's take a close look at the dial. I see no flaws. Everything on the rep looks exact. Although the rep case is using brushed SS to tone down colour, it look the same to me.

    1569733266_75598e9a8f.jpg

    1568845567_d7d503c74f.jpg

3.) Let's look at the caseback. Again, it is a spot on. However, the true titanium colour shows up in this pic on the gen.

    1568845883_1b98227cd0.jpg

The rep factory did a good job again. Model and serial number etched out nicely on the rep.

    1569732622_7d81f692bf.jpg

4.) The rubber bracelet on the rep is soft but tough. I tried the gen one and the rep bracelet feel the same. The rubber used on the rep bracelet is not the crappy one that will become sticky and allow dust to stick on type. It feels like good quality rubber.

    1569732912_288349f63d.jpg

In summary, I think this under rated quartz watch is very well made. From the box packaging, little details like the dial, caseback and bracelet. Everything is followed very closely by the rep factory. However, there are still some bad points on this rep. First, the lume sucks. Yes, really sucks. Only the lume on the hands glow while the rest will not. Next is the watch is not water resistance at all. So, my advice is try not soak or let it run under water.

There is a swiss version offered to this watch. However, the Tag logo on the swiss version is incorrect. It uses metallic logo instead of the correct green red painted logo. Only the asian quartz version has the correct logo.

This is a damn good looking watch and it feel very comfortable on the wrist. I am seriously thinking of getting it water-proof as this is really a great watch for every events be it outdoor or indoor. So, don't worry about swinging my hand hard anymore as quartz has this advantage over the automatic that may be damage if the shock is too high for it to take.

    Some eyecandy.

    1569746322_d904c942ec.jpg

I think the rep factory is relly serious in getting this one right. Even the price tag is printed with the retail price. Check this out in the pic below

Lastly, a white face golf watch for the lady...

  6. Just to share my PAM001B story.

PAM001B was the first panerai model that caught my eyes.

I like the simplicity of the dial and also the running second hand sub dial at 9 o'clock.

I was lucky to find an "old school" PAM001B rep during my trip to ShenZhen 2 years ago.

I handled a few marina and base models reps before. I really think that the "old school" case are the best made version.

    2674518806_bd79283d9d_o.jpg

    2674518854_93d950dc15_o.jpg

I was a newbie then and thought that what I've gotten was good enough. However, after gaining much knowlegdes from our respective long time members here and from other forums, the fun started when I decided to go ahead to "perfect" my PAM001B.

PAM001B came in both "T Swiss T" or "L Swiss L" sausage dials. This is one of the model that went through a transitional period when panerai switched Tritium lume to superluminova. And this happened in B series production.

As my PAM001B comes with "L Swiss L" at 6 o'clock, I thought I'll just contact The Zigmeister and send it to him for relume work with superluminova.

But after looking at countless gen pics. I still prefer the look of the aged tritium lume dial.

This is what I always wanted

    2674519114_6a94608aef_o.jpg

Beside the aged lume, another common flaw that we all know is the incorrect letter "A" in which the horizontal bar is printed too low making it an obvious tell.

So, I started hunting for better dial and this led me to Davidsen. Unfortunately, all his first version dials were sold out at the time when I contacted him. I tried hard to find the dial I want but to no avail.

I didn't give up my plan. For 2 years, I patiently waited for someone who are willing to part with some earliest version dial from Davidsen.

At last, I found one but it has "T-Swiss-T" at 6 o'clock. Although it was incorrect, I bought it over as it was the closest I can find.

Next will be the crown. Being late to this forum, palp's crowns were wiped out fast before I can contact him. So, I went to get lello's crown (which is not too bad IMO).I was lucky enough to purchase a crown from him before he stop selling them.

I also have a Davidsen's Pre-V buckle (Yeah I know it's not for this model) because I like it alot. I waited 6 months for this buckle as it was out of stock.

    2674518972_7520606ab6_o.jpg

1 : Davidsen's earliest version (which is the best IMO) with better letter "A" font

    2 : Incorrect "T-Swiss-T"

3 : Lello's thick crown (thickness was about 1.91mm but looks thick because the bevel edge is very thin)

    2673699367_7c4fb78723.jpg

Davidsen's pre-v buckle. Looks nice and cool

So, It looks like I have all the ingredients ready.

    I also contacted The Zigmeister and it will be scheduled to go for The Zigmeister's spa early August for the following works;

    - Convert "T-Swiss-T" to "T Swiss T"

    - Install lello's crown

    - Flaten the lever pin on CG

    - Relume davidsen's dial with aged tritium lume

    - Relume and touch up the hands

    - Touch up the crystal (removing some marks at the edge)

I've waited for a long time for this day to come. Can't wait to receive a brand new PAM001B from The Zigmeister. I am very happy with his service. He never fail to reply my mails. Thanks Rob. ;)

Thank you for reading my thread. I will post a pic when I have it back probably a month later.

    Cheers

    :)

*** Latest update - I finally found a SS palp's crown. So this one will be installed and I'll use lello's crown for other project. Oh Boy, I am lucky :D

Thanks to Fishgodeep, porsche356a, babola, legendofspeed, Kruzer for the advices given

  7. Hi everyone,

I will like to share my recent dealing with davidsen.

I read that some good members here faced some issue from davidsen's PAMs. I hope he will work out something for them. :)

My latest purchase was his new pre-v 5218-201A. The item arrived about 4 weeks ago and everything looks good at first until I wind the movt via the crown. The feeling was different comparing with his usual PAM reps. I held up the watch and look at the side of the CG. I then realised that the crown position was raised much higher. So when I am winding the movt, the upper portion of the crown protruded out too much leaving very little portion below causing more friction on my thumb. Other than this, the watch runs pretty well.

    2538149016_204903fc05.jpg

    2537332225_a85490ff84.jpg

I wasn't too anal about it at first but after wearing it for a week or so I began to feel frustrated to it

because it was painful to wind the movt.

I emailed DSN for help. About 3 days later, he sent me a reply asking me to return the item back to him as he will do a case swap for me. It was very nice of him and I sent the watch back as told.

It took only a week or less and my "new" 201A arrvied.

    2637884017_00949bb16e_o.jpg

Other than the seemingly "thin" crown, I think my 201A looks very good.

Hope he is reading this and will offer me some better crown ;)

    * To DSN, thank you very much for your prompt response and the help given.

  8. 252 is an awesome choice. Nice rep lume (unless you want it to be relumed by The Zigmeister master), correct font (especially the "A").

Now. How are you going to flatten and polish the protruded cannon pin?

This is the most difficult IMO but I guess you can do it ;)

Thanks for the 196 old DW buddy ^_^

  9. Hi alien,

Nice pick up and good observation.

What you found from the comparison are correct. Very good for a newbie who just enter into the rep world.

Did you say anal? Well, that depends... To some maybe yes but to some, the fun just begin if you are considering doing further mods to your UPO.

There are 2 ways you may try for the mods.

The cheaper way is to get a UPO dial from silix (the one and only UPO rep dial dial with the correct omega logo) and do a logo swap. Want to see the effect? Well, here you are...

    1984201115_918f85454b_o.jpg

Another way is to get the gen spare parts like dial, hands, bezel insert, crown, bracelet, dial from Ofrei.

For me, swapping the logo is good enough for me.

Hope you the above info helps and enjoy your watch more ^_^

  10. If you read up more, you'll find that there are 2 versions of the E series movements used for the reps.

The first version had rougher finish on the bridge (engravement is bolder and rougher) and unpolished gear

surface while the second version (which is the best) had tremendous improvement on the finishing on the bridge engravement and even the side of the bridge and the gear surface were also polished like the gen. It is truly one of the best Pam movement ever made. Unfortunately, the E series movement were gone and no longer available.

The E series movement also comes in Swiss or Asian version. However, the Asian version is more accurate.

Easy tell is from the Incabloc anti-shock device (notice the shape of the jewel near the dagger)used on the Asian and Novodiac (flower shaped jewel) on the swiss.

Another way to tell is from the spokes of the balancing wheel. Asian has curvy / flared bottom spokes while the Swiss has straight spokes.

I had a chance to compared it with a gen 113 sometime ago.

Let see how well the rep E series movement score,

113 on the left and 114 on the right

    2582806621_704072df3d_b.jpg

Best of PAM rep movement. The pic do not do justice as it looks very accurate

    2582808911_ac49db9a55.jpg

    2583637336_a3a53906a6.jpg

    What do you think?

Hope the rep factory will re-consider bringing these stunning looking movements back again.

Grab it if you can find it. It is hard to come by these days.

    Thanks for viewing :)

  11. Day and date wheel on A's look closer to the ETA font which looks squarish. R's DWs font are off.

Subdials on A's looks more accurate to the gen cos the concentric rings are too deep on R's.

A's lume is also closer to the gen. The dot is suppose to be a square when you see it near not rectangular like R's.

Get the gen ETA DWs and you will have a franken 2006CD. ;)

    Available from cousin from UK.

  12. Well, the case back is wrong for a 114, I believe. However, there's no correct caseback out there that I'm aware of. The crown looks pretty decent. Is the canon pin flattened and polished? If not, do so. Then add one of V's new crown guards and you're all set, IMO.

Nice watch. I've got one that I turned into a 010D.

    Thanks peepshow.

    What is V's new crown?

How can I convert to 10D which has a T swiss T and Dseries closed caseback. Where can I get them?

    Thanks :D
