I know that a lot of people will disagree with me but I personally think that, after having had the opportunity to look into some Rolexes, Omegas and IWCs, only the IWC is a good value for the money. I'd definately stay away from Rolex, some of the finishing and over all craftsmanship on subs and daytonas gives me the impression that you will pay disproportionally for the brand when buying a Rolex. I have mixed feelings about genuine Omegas. Especially when it comes to "passing a watch on to your kid", I would prefer to buy a watch from a watchmaker or company that puts out smaller circulation than for example the Swatch owned Omega. Those watches are likely to keep more of their orginal value. In the mentioned price range I would have a closer look at one of the following watches/brands (all from different stiles and not too much "Zeitgeist" design): - M

The problem is that any ETA/ETA Rep out there is unable to simulate the movement of a Nummer 1. I think I recall reading about some rep that used two small movements to simulate it ... but the powerreserve was still not functional. Actually I have yet to see any Lange rep that is more than a fantasy replica. Oliver

Supposedly the Enterprise is just send as a replacement. I am not overly worried although I think that good old dubya may be stupid enough to actually have a swing at Iran.

Well, it will turn out to be contrabande and the best you can do from my perspective is to claim ignorance (I didn't order any watches... )and have them return it to China. Once it is in the hand o customs .. you are pretty much f*cked. This is the reason why I have chosen to exclusively buy from Dealers that ship from within the EU or fellow members within the EU. I have had too many custom issues in the past year.

Even if they get the case, dial, bracelet etc. right some time, the movement will always tell the tale. I don't think there will ever be a copy of "El Primero".
