  1. was given a "proper" wet shave at a very posh barbers london.. trumpers. the basics are here http://www.trumpers.com/shaving.cfm always heat up your face/bristles first, use a good shaving foam and shave with the grain of your beard, never against it. using a sharp multi bladed razor you should feel no drag or pull as you shave. ive got very sensitive skin and always used to get shaving rash.... not any more! si
  2. i got the hour vision gen a few months ago. i think it will be an appreciating classic due to the movement. it does look fantastic worn with a black suit!! heres some crappy pics of a beautiful watch......... si
  3. hi jack enjoy this great hobby........ we do! si
  4. ive just bought a gen omega de ville on the strength of the movement alone. as it happens the watch is also very beautiful. the new caliber 8500 represents a milestone in omegas history and is the first manufacture caliber of the modern era. it beats at 3.5 htz 25,200 as 4 htz was deemed too fast. it has twin barrels and a free floating balance spring. i read up about this movement and for the first time wanted a watch totally because of what was inside the case. im not going to be wearing this one much and never outside as i recon this could become a future classic and maybe quite sought after... who knows? anyway im very very proud to own this watch and thought id share. (my shitty pics) si
  5. hi ive had a great morning at a local watchmakers.. we graphite lubed my ss sec@6 daytona. problem is the chrono hands came off leaving their tiny "tubes" on their posts. we took the tubes off the posts and tried to refit them into the hands but it was too fiddly. and i now need to find some replacements. what will fit? they are the chrome finished ones. thanks in anticipation si
  6. cheers everyone i understand next step, learn how to disassemble/rebuild a watch.......... si
  7. freddy as i said im not interseted in the swish and dip im thinking of the judicious oiling of a brand new movement, with the correct grade of watch oil, on a partially disassembled movement. even if you could only access 50% of the necessary lube points its got to be better than a completely dry movement? of course i realise that to service and lube a movement properly requires complete disassembly. to use your analogy... you've realised the car you just bought has too little engine oil in it. youre not quite sure how to top it up, but you realise doing nothing will shorten the life of your engine. its not quite worth the expense of having the garage take the whole engine apart and clean, reassemble and oil it. si
  8. yes i read about the swish and dip... not interested in that! "the other option is to oil the partially assembled movement as best you can with an proper oiler (which is basically a needle that picks up oil on the end), the problem here is you need to know the movement quite well or its easy to miss hidden parts. This option is fairly effective so long as you don't have an inaccessible jewell or part." this is what i meant. i think that if you can do this ,even to a cheap a21, when you very first get your new rep, it will help its longivity? would be something that someone who only has the intermediate skill to take the movement/ dial off could do we need pictures of various popular movements, partially disassembled with arrows where to oil and what grade oil to use!! its got to be an award winning pinned post if someone could do it! come on .... the watch world needs a hero to come forward...... si
  9. having been a memeber of several boards for several months ive picked up alot of great stuff. i keep seeing some mystical, mythical, half legend, half lore mention of some of the members ability to do a basic lube on our beloved movements WITHOUT DISASSEMBLY.possibly using hypodermic needles. given that most movements come out of the factories with little or no oil, surely if such a thing existed then we should all be aware of this magic. i spent a good two hours last night searching the boards for a "how to" on this .....nada! so come on you watch wizards, why are we being kept in the dark. if this technique is possible, why havent you got your cameras out and produced a tutorial? is it that, like old nessie, it doesnt really exist? or is it some secret art ,closely guarded by a fanatic band of wizend, hunchbacked horologists ? si
  10. there is a local horologist about 1 mile from where i work. he is an officially certified rolex and omega workshop. i gave him a friendly call a few months back. we had a really nice chat about watches. he loves them and wakes up every day excited about his job, which hes been doing for 30 years! he could tell by chatting to me that i was also very into watches. anyhow the upshot of the conversation was that hed be happy to look at any of my reps if i needed help. so....... ive recently aquired a high beat red letter sec@6 ss daytona. i read about the graphite lube and wanted to give it a go. phoned him up yesterday for a "chat" about it. i was TOTALLY bowled over when he invited me to his workshop next saturday morning. he said i could use his workshop to do the job and he would help /show me what to do. RESULT!!! i couldnt bloody believe it. what a star. i think i may have found my new best friend! will let everyone know how i got on, and what i learned. to say im excited about next weekend is an understatement! good watchmaker... oh yeah si
  11. he is also on rwi (darkside) www.replica-watch.info si
  12. freddy.... the $95 watch came from WBK aka stan. hes a very trusted dealer on rwi and repgeek. his repgeek page is http://www.repgeek.com/forumdisplay.php?f=36. unfortunately you can only buy through his forum pages. he ships fron the US btw. rrfan... i agree. this sec@9 is lovely and should be reliable. even my wife, who is sick to death of watches, commented on how nice it was! im sure if you asked ruby she would source the exact watch you want. i know people have had some problems with silix but our transaction was quick and efficient and the watch is very nice and keeps great time.
  13. hi i am a big daytona fan and one of the reasons i stumbled into the world of reps was to get me a good-un. months later and lots of research i think i finally understand the flawed world of daytona reps. so in the spirit of helpfulness heres a brief outline . you CANT find a good daytona rep that will stand up to anything more than a quick glance from anyone who knows the watch. if thats your priority ...go for a different rep. if a website or dealer tells you their product is a perfect copy... RUN AWAY. ok some terminology. sec@ 9= second subdial at the 9 o'clock position sec @6= .... you get it! "newer" post 2001 daytonas have sec@6 . older or vintage (paul newman) watches have sec @9. i have purchased 3 daytonas, of wildly varying prices but all from trusted dealers. for $95. an asian 21j tt from WBK (aka stan found on repgeek and rwi). this was the cheapest but in some ways is the closest on the wrist to the gen. it has the ultra reliable asian 21j that we know and love. this powers the sec @6 subdial AND the constantly sweeping large chrono second hand. this looks like you' ve left the chrono running. the min and hours hands are faux (false just stuck on). the subdial spacings are pretty good and importantly the width of the case and angle of the bezel is good. this is because the simple movement can sit in a thinner case. photo below illustrates the difference between the simple a21j and the fully functioning asian 7750 sec @6. the fatter sec@6 7750 is on the left with the steeper angled bezel. a gen sec @6 has the same slim , low angled bezel as the one on the right. for $195 asian 7750 25j with sec@9 from silix (www.silix-prime.com). the main fault with the sec@9 daytonas is the totally wrong spacing of the subdials. the 9 and 3 subdials are set too far apart. many people find this really unacceptable. the good points of this watch are the case is thinner than the 7750 sec @6 rep, as the 7750 movement is designed to run sec@9 and needs no complicated modifications. it is also quite reliable in this form and all the chronos fully function. i just like the look of this watch, especially with the black strap. this is the one to go for if you want to play with the chrono function, want reliability, but dont mind that the sub dials scream fake! below is a picture illustrating the poor spacing of the sec@9 rep, compared with the more accurate $95 21j watch. finally for $260 a "new" highbeat red letter 7750 sec@6. sourced by fakemaster. this seems to be the model most people want. i dont know about elsewhere but this stainless steel model with the white face has a 7+ yr waiting list in the uk and sells for a $6000 premium if you cant wait! the 7750 sec@6 model has 11 gears and a gear bridge extra to the normal movement. this is to transfer the usual sec@9 7750 application to a sec@6 application. this mod is fraught with problems because the extra gears cannot be lubricated and just "sit" on the bridge. this creates alot of drag and often stops the movement. the newer high beat models maybe more reliable? some people report owning and using these watches for years with no problems... but the problems are there. this particular watch stopped within a week of getting it. i took the movement out to do a "graphite lube" and it started again. it has now been runniung fine for several weeks? the other problem this rep has is the fatter case, as mentioned before. so if you want an accurate model(apart from the case thickness) with sec@6 and functioning chronos then this could be the one? if youre prepared to take a risk!(probably best not to run the chronos too much). below are all three watches together . hope this has been of some use to someone? if theres any mis-information, or anyone has anything they feel should be added, post! if this has been done already.... sorry si
  14. two faves at moment oris gen... or smp rep ahh... choices choices si
