I once saw a member here who was visiting either Bangkok or China. He bought a couple of reps and was presented with the option of having them serviced at about $10 per watch. Now I understand that labor is cheap in these countries, but the fact that the 2 or three watches he bought were ready for him the next day leads me to believe that "Service", like "Super Lume", does not mean "Service" as in a complete tear down and oiling.

I too would find it real hard to beleive that was a full service.

If you don't trust that the dealer will do what they say, then don't buy from the dealer.

Seriously though.. there are a couple of schools of thought on this one. If it is a watch you love, it is darn near 1:1, it is a quality peice and you want to keep it for years to come then sure, get it serviced... it is a good value. You will have to do it on a regular basis.

If not then you may find that you replace it in a year or so and then it collects dust or you get rid of it. Keep in mind the economics of the whole thing as well (is the movement cheap, readily available and easy to swap).

All thing mechanical require service and all of these watchs will sooner or later require it. Question is.. do you care? ;o)

Have you contacted the dealer? Many will replace a watch that new.

Three of our club members went down to Alabama to bring the raffle car back to its temporary home here in Ohio. All three of these guys own Superformance cars, one of the best made. But, I think their next car may be from Unique. One of them commented on the raffle car: "It has to be one of the finest replicas I’ve ever seen. One needs sunglasses to look at the engine." High praise indeed. I will get some some more pictures out when I can but with a foot of snow on the ground right now... it may be a while!

That is one SWEET car! One of my favorites (I've got a Factory Five Racing DVD floating around my house...if only I had the time...and the money....and the garage space....).

I've got a new car on order...it's supposed to be coming in next week. Maybe I'll just cancel it, and buy $40k worth of raffle tickets

On a side note, I was watching a classic and custom car auction on ESPN2 last week. They auctioned the racing Cobra with the most wins. If I remember correctly, it brought in $1,125,000!

BUT, for everyone outside the CONUS, take notice, getting to your country and getting it to comply with the laws of your country is on your nickle! The is street legal in the US and will be delivered in the US. Any expense, etc outside the CONUS is up to you! We are not even going to title the car, it will be trailered from show to show selling tickets and aside from testing miles, you will be the first!

Seems to me the company that makes these, Unique, has done some LHD cars and done some conversion for the laws of various coutries such as the SVA in England. You could also contact them and find out. If you win it and want them to do the work, we could ship it back to them and you and Unique can take it from there.

HP is at the crank with all the accesories in place. The car only weighs a little over 2300 lbs and we did not want to put a monster motor in it. At 512 horsepower and 2300 pounds... the thing is scary fast. In mine I only have a little over 400hp and I have seen my passengers turn white as a ghost. No one is ever able to speak when I first get on it!

Here is some details from the engine builder, Southern Automotive:

"All who know Bill would expect a “big block” that would represent the power, performance & sound of the original cobra. Therefore, we decided to go with our Super FE 452 CI engine which consist of a 390 block, 4.250” stroke crankshaft, CNC ported Edelbrock aluminum heads and a CNC port matched Edelbrock Victor FE aluminum intake manifold which produced a healthy 512 hp @5700 rpms and 518 ft lbs of torque at 4400 rpms. To harness all of this power, we installed a McLeod aluminum flywheel, clutch and pressure plate mated to a Tremec 600 5 speed transmission. Finally, to put it over the top and go for 1st place in any show, we added our fully custom polished and dress up options with all polished surfaces hand treated with Zoop Seal for maximum protection."

Which watches (or, rather, which movements) would not work on the Sharper Image? It's great for my 2824s. Will it work just as well with a 7750?

You know I don't recall exactly. Seems to me it was the cheaper watches with 21j's but I am not positive.

Sometimes they look like the little engine that could, struggling to get 400 grams of watch through a revolution.

Funny visual! I can just remember mine trying to rock my heavy 196 on a SS bracelet.

I actually just got one of the Sharper Image models as a refurb. Does anyone have experience with this one? Aside from the fact that it only holds one watch, I'm pretty impressed with it. It's totally silent, very well made, and it can be adjusted to run for 3, 6, 9, or 12 minutes per hour. So far, both of my 2824 based reps only require 3 minutes per hour of winding time. I use the 12 minute setting for winding stopped watches.

I wish they made a model for multiple watches, but for the price, I'll probably just buy 7 more of them.

I had one, just gave it to a buddy of mine after getting my eight watch winder. Worked just fine but not for all watches. Since it only rocked back and forth instead of making complete revelutions not all of my watches would wind on it.

Just so happens that I have both of those watches. The Daytona from Josh, serviced by The Zigmeister. Keeps near perfect time, runs and functions perfectly. I have had it for about 10 months now. The case is only 1.5mm thicker then gen if memory serves. The Bentley I bought used so I don't know who it came from. Aside from the AR and slightly smaller dial then gen it also is a very nice piece. Both with the new asian 7750. The Bentley has not been served and isn't as accurate from a time keeping standpoint but still a very nice watch. I don't know if Josh offers the pre-service on the 7750 but if he does it is a cheaper alternative. Or you can just wear it and when it dies, service/replace the movement. A swiss 7753 movement will run you $500 for the movement alone though... and then it will still need to be serviced!

Every year we get this question and the answer is no, it is not limited to the US. BUT, any cost of getting the car to your country, getting it modified to meat the laws of your country, etc, etc are on your own dime. The car is prepared street legal for the US so please keep that in mind. Some countries as simple to import and title the cars, others are not simple so please do the research before you get raffle tickets.

Then again, you could sell the car in the US and keep the money. I don't know what the final value of the car is as of yet but it is safe to say that is should be north of $60,000 US.

Some of you know that aside from my day job, I am also president of the Ohio Cobra Club Inc. We dedicate a great deal of our efforts in helping out Cystic Fibrosis. This year, as years in the past, we are raffling off a car... but not just any car! The pictures pretty much speak for them selves. What you can't see is that the car, all factory assemebled and 100% complete will also be powered by a Southern Automotive, all polished FE (for those of you not in the know, that translates into a HUGE fire breathing big block motor).

The website for ticket sales will go up after the first of the year and I won't forget to let my watch buddies know!

In the business world, I don't mix faith in my work. If the meaning more 1b or 2, then you did not either. Personally, I some times get annoyed when some one goes way over board goes overboard shoving their beleifs down my throat. I don't think your comment comes even close to that. Usually when some one says something like that to me, I just say 'thank you'. Regardless of the speakers, or in this case writers, religion, for them it shows caring for the listener(reader) so the correct response is to be grateful.
