    rep A/R is exactly what it says ... REP A/R

    aftermarket by Chieftang is damn near invisible however it takes some effort to get it so the choice is yours

    if you plan to keep the watch, do it right

    if not, get whatever ya can afford and ride it out for what its worth

    i sympathize with all the poor Brits who must be subject to an endless deluge of Hamilton-mania through the media for the rest of the 2008 even if i lust for their HD signals (totally incapable of meshing with the US, hmph !)

    funny how no one mentions his true roots (Grenada, i think) ever since he hit the big time

    Consistency, not victories, wins championships.

    bitter ? not as much as McLaren last year when Kimi stole the crown from under both their lead drivers :D

    consistency ? yea the ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory is certainly a very consistent trait ... beaching the car, running into the back of parked cars, overcooking T1 and what not. He's got talent & seems likable in person (from a Top Gear interview) but he's over-rated.

    Heck i'd much rather root for Mr Jenson Button who is still hanging in there despite a totally undriveable Honda this year

    i hear he's been promised a McLaren road car by Dennis if he pulls a hat-trick so lets hope he can get one by leading like a true champion for the next 2 years

    Let's assume you meant 1080i (a higher frame rate than 1080p).

    "720p is a smoother image overall"

    So, it's smoother, but you can't tell the difference?

    Huh.

    on a sub 40" screen, you probably won't

    but then in your particular case, Puggy you could sit back & nit-pick dust mites out of a brand-new carpet

    p.s.

    my friend picked up a 32" Sharp LCD 1080i/720p for $499 + tax @ the local Costco last night (including 2 yr extended warranty) with dual HDMI, compoonent inputs, also composite, co-ax, etc

    they had a similar Vizio for the same price and a Westinghouse for under $400 too

    i found the last bit about "Using the GMT display as a rough solar compass" very interesting

    Now i have one more way to utilize my Choppy GMT chrono (or a reason to get another, albeit a non-chrono version) :D

    one question though

    how does a GMT watch account for time zones that may be apart by an hour(or a few) and a half instead of an odd/even number of hours ?

    for instance its 5 am for a Fairbanks resident but 4:30 pm in Estahan, Iran ... how would a resident in either part set their GMT hands to reflect each other ?

    did i say 1080p when referring to the difference in resolution ?

    i must have meant 1080i which is what is broadcast by some TV stations for a HD signal, others use 720p

    1080i may have a higher resolution than 720p but 720p is a smoother image overall

    furthermore US cable/sat providers are known to cheat us consumers when it comes to HD service, wonder how it is in the UK ?

    true HD service is classified as a 24 mbps signal but they get away with as little as 7 out there

    google up 'HD Lite' and you'll know what i'm talking about :)

    i got a 52" sharp LCD after my 47" samsung big screen kicked the bucket for the 4th time in 4 years

    i did read up on avsforum.com & came away with this

    anything under 42" and you're wasting the HD signal so might as well get a loss-leader 32"-37" CRT @ that point

    most folk can't even tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 42" so i'd like the 50+ sizes

    LCD works better in well-lit rooms while plasma displays black colors better

    both plasma and LCD have their advantages/disadvantages so pick one tech that you'll be comfy with

    when it comes to LCD, get Sony or Sharp ... when it comes to plasma, go for Pioneer or Panasonic

    lastly comparing telly sets side-by-side @ the showroom is never a good idea

    You can always say you bought them "used abroad". That kills any chance of doubt. Some friends already know I'm "very" into watches (not compared to thousands of other members here) and that I participate in a watch forum. Not reps not gens, just watch forum... so a simple "I bought it used over the net" would do also. Sometimes a simple "it's a fake" and a wink works too... the "fell off a truck" one get lots of laughs but if someone goes on, any of the above works like a charm.

    So every one of the above are true, and you won't lie to anyone.
