  1. I love the look of some of the new reps out with swiss 7750 movements but some of them cost upwards of $800+. I can but a Hamilton Chrono or a Tissot LeLocle or an Accutron Gemini mechanical chrono for in the $600-$700 range. This choice has presented my OCD thinking with another bone to chew on. Do I get something that looks astonishingly close to a genuine Breitling and has a dependable movement that performs smoothly and accurately or do I get a genuine with all the perks of buying from a legitimate company but a lesser name at a lower price??? The genuines mentioned are entry level 7750 mechanicals. I was going to get one of the new Swiss 7750 Breitlings until I tried on a beautiful Accutron Gemini with a white dial, blue hands and roman numerals. The feel and weight were so different from my stainless reps. Unless our dealer friends come out with something more reasonably priced, I think any Swiss 7750 replica over $500 just isnt worth it.
  2. That would explain why they are pretty common in the rep market but practically non existent in genuines. It's too bad. I think it's a beautiful version of the Rolex Cheeseburger.
  3. ...and for the sake of the fantasy, lets imagine you are not permitted to grab the three most expensive watches in the store, sell them the next day, and buy a 52 foot Azimut Yacht. 60 seconds...probably three watches.... My first instinct would be to grab any tourbillion they might have on the floor, but unless I know where one is, I might blow all 60 seconds looking for one.....so.... First one is a Girard Perregaux complication in solid gold. Second is a Breguet dress watch, gold, elegant. Third is the new Maurice Lacroix Chrono in solid gold. Oh my, no diving watches!!!!!!! And all gold, how gauche!
  4. I agree...It was a "What if it bacame a serious crime" question. There was a time not too many years ago I considered shoving a baggie of pot in my sock and hopping on a plane a no risk action. I wouldn't even consider risking it today. (Plus....I don't smoke anymore....not since peeing in a cup became part of retainig my medical license!!!) I hope we never have to be afraid of "one watch crime" transactions but you never know.....times change!
  5. Looks like Ikepod has just landed rather than relaunched. I never was fond of the "alien spacecraft" look of this watch. Too many nightmares from "The Twilight Zone" I guess. I still wake up sweating to ".....To Serve Man......IT'S A COOKBOOK!!!!!!!!!!!"
  6. Thanks TeeVeeTee!!!!!! That video sure shatters the myth of ISO 9000 factories churning out beautiful high fidelity replicas. It also suggests that while quality and availbility might suffer when the Chinese finally say "Enough", the "basement shop" nature of the business probably means it won't dry up.
  7. Oui! No she doesn't have her girl scout uniform anymore but she does have a nice French Maid outfit that's been getting some use lately! Oooh La La
  8. My first rep was a President Green Gold Quartz in 1985. As maligned as it is, when the Chinese came out witha 7750 copy that started showing up in replicas and we got actual working chronographs, that was the Holy Grail for me. The curve that represents accuracy and indistinguishability from genuines continues to get closer to the ultimate. The curve of mechanical reliability lags behind.
  9. Wow, great information and a dose of reality that wasn't the intent of opening the thread. I thought the usual band of clowns around here would chime in with some amusing anecdotes and entertain me. Didn't intend to scare anyone or start a serious discussion about fraud and prosecution. I would hope that my dozen replicas doesn't constitute an illicit collection waranting investigation. My wife, however, thinks I'm going to the federal pen. She's such a girl scout.
  10. Yeah, must be mineral. They need to go to Hardex.
  11. Without a Trace, Law and Order, Cops, NYPD Blue....... No local sports on or I might have asked "What watch would you wear during a hockey game???"
  12. Suppose one day, taking delivery of a replica of a $10,000 watch became a very serious offense and the EMS package from Josh was delivered by an FBI agent who wanted to know who were your partners in crime. To borrow a phrase from the TV cop shows, would you roll on your friends and dealers in the community????? I think I'd probably cave right after I lost control of my bowels. BTW, not a serious question meant to out any skells that might flip once the man brings heat. How's that for NYPD Blue speak????
  13. Wow, how does anyone who played in a heavy metal band like Anthrax have the patience and steady hands to work in the 25X world of the loop and micro tweezers? Can you think of anything more opposite than smashing guitars and watchmaking?
  14. OK...I am jealous!!! Here's my next wristwatch. I just have to find 150 mm springbars and a wide leather belt to mount it.
  15. MMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!! You're off to a great start. Your question about the Nav suggests a little bit of chrono naievete. Be sure to ask questions before you throw any money away, ie. Rolex Daytona Sec at 6 etc.....
  16. Had no idea about his mental illness! I just know some of their movements are reasonably priced and others are way too expensive.
  17. Great pics and that crystal experience is hillarious. Makes it look like you really tore it apart!
  18. I'll be fine with the GP but, please no Titanium. If we're gonna produce a custom tool rock, let's give it the requisite weight. Even in genuines, Titanium feels cheap and unsubstantial.
  19. An earlier post said the Lange looked like a hundred other dress watches. I think there is a lack of accurate replicas of beautiful, simple watches. I haven't found a Patek or a Vacheron that doesn't have major issues. Maybe I've just had my fill of complications. I would love to see a 1-1 replica of this beautiful tribute watch. No offense but another gadget tool watch is something we already have lots of examples of.
  20. I didn't read through all the posts but I agree with By-Tor that the weak point in ETA movement reps , if you wear them every day and put them the rigours you would put a genuine, tends to be the case and bracelet before the movement. Screw down crowns tend to be the biggest problem. Above all, these are watches produced with the most attention given to appearance and not performance. They are beautiful and I treat them as if they are fragile.
  21. Never thought about it before. Thanks, now I have something new to obsess about!
  22. Rolex Sub SS. Embarassing answer for me. I own many watches that are more interesting and beautiful but they are situational watches. I'm also ashamed to admit that if I'm going to wear the same watch every day, it's going to be a watch peoplenotice and ask questions about!
