  1. You mentioned in your PM the battery looked like it was soldered in. Was it easy to get out? It doesn't look like the battery has any lead on it.
  2. Same watch only in SS. My wife bought it for me for a 10th anniversary gift. I still look at it with awe and reverence. Perfect size, tough as nails, beautiful aesthetics, and smooth as silk operation. For me, it threads the needle for anytime wear. I fancy myself James Bond with it on in a suit and Jacques Cousteau in a speedo! Just kidding, no speedo!
  3. Great idea! Thanks for the poll. I don't own a PO but at one time it was up there on my gotta have list. Maybe I should revisit the buy!
  4. Because WD-40 is good for cleaning rusty tools and fixing that squeaky door hinge, not to address repair issues with the delacate micro machinery inside a mechanical watch. The lubrication needed for a mechanical watch is limited to very small quantities of highly specialized lubricants at fery specific wear points. I know someone who tried to fix a balky mechanical movement by spraying the inside of the watch with the WD. It's like washing your finest china in the cupboard with a power washer. Don 't use Macro techniques, tools and substances on your micromachine.
  5. Looks like the caseback screws are faux? The back just pops off???
  6. Thanks soooooo much for the photos. I can't wait till I get mine!
  7. And many thanks to Chrogod for his quick response PM. Sounds like an interesting piece and for $93 delivered, not too hard on the bank account!!!
  8. Agreed, I had a "stuttering" 21j that kept great time but could give you a seizure if you looked at it for too long. This one looks nothing like the problem I had. It is more jumping than stuttering as you said.
  9. While I think we're the most maligned and one of the most visible examples of the counterfeit trade, it's the tens of millions of computers running on pirated software that makes up the bulk of the IPR issue. I do think however, when the crackdown comes, it will be across the board regardless of how significant the business. And it is coming, for real or for show. China will be showcased in 2008 for the Olympics and they have some significant impetus to crack down for real economic reasons and for reasons of potential embarassment.
  10. Among the topics, the problem of intelluctual property rights infringement. Surprised we haven't heard of an EMS slow down. guess the Christmas shopping season isnt a great time to inspect packages. Link to a Newsweek/MSNBC article. Surprisingly, only passing mention of counterfeit watch trade. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16213638/site/newsweek/
  11. Actually, I just found a post from Chrogod in the ohoto section where he describes the functions. I have PMd him for some further information. The post is below. Yes, the X-33 is from Silix. I have only seen this version of the X-33 by TTK and Silix. The hands are fully functional as well as the digital part. This is a replica of the first version of the X-33, as it has the polished bezel and pushers, and the old crown. It has: - Rather strong, nice backlight. - Choice of 24 or AM/PM timezone - Chronograph - 2nd timezone - Alarm - Cheap bracelet, old type. The genuine is made of titanium, but the astronauts use it with a kevlar strap. One thing that buggers me a minor bit is that it has indication of day @ 5 o clock. The genuine does not have this. But except from the use of steel instead of titan, this is the only "major" flaw. Also the caseback is engraved with "The first watch worn on the moon. Flight qualified by Nasa.. etc". And I also have a problem with figuring out how to operate the alarm. I can set it, but when it rings I always activate a five minute snooze function, instead of just turning it off. Frankly, I have not discovered how to turn it off in a simple way. But all in all, definently something different and a keeper. The girls like it! But please, anyone else, all information is welcome
  12. Should be smooth and easy but the Venus copy movement doesnt have an overwind clutch. You stop when significant resistance is felt. Be sure to not go past this. Have you let the watch run down completely and then try to wind?? If so and you still feel significant resistance, then I would have it checked out.
  13. Now that I've convinced my wife to get it for me for Christmas and the order is in process, I've decided to ask about it Does it mimic the original in function accurately? Do you get any instructions with it? Are you happy with it? All comments and thoughts welcome Bought it from Silix.
  14. 4 years ago. Didn't know a thing about replica watches. Paid $750 for a Swiss Submariner in summer blue from buydesignerwatch.com and Walter Wong. Watch ran 40 minutes fast per day on delivery. Had to get it serviced. Pearl fell out a week later. Screw came out of the bracelet in a stairwell and the watch flew off and down the 3 story center opening in the stairwell. It didn't survive.
  15. Got to agree. There is no brand of fine watch that the general public recognizes more as the face of excellence than Rolex. I can take a stab at what I see as the most classically designed watch of all time. I dont think there will ever be a generation of collectors that will not see desireability in the Patek 5059
  16. Why remove the movement???? Just put a belt on it and call it "Shaq's Bell and Ross Instrument I don't know, ....this whole bit about fitting larger movements into wristwatches flies in the face of centuries of engineering among horologists for smaller, thinner, less obtrusive timepieces. The change over to and the appeal of wristwatches over pocketwatches was based in how much one has to haul around and where you have to put it to be informed about time in the course of a day. Maybe the mechanical engineers are admitting that you can't compete with quartz for thin and accurate so they are flourishing in a size realm where a quartz movement is superfluous. I think this is Freuedian compensation for the mechanical almost being killed off and left for dead by quartz two decades ago. Our mechanical timepieces are saying "Look at me, I'm still here and I'm bigger than ever."
  17. Depends on the watch. I love the look of elegant dress watches on high quality straps but a bracelet, a little bit loosely sized, is my personal comfort preference. Straps, no matter how padded or supple, always feel like tourniquets to me and several of my watches on straps are "tweeners" with one hole too loose and the next one too tight. A flopping watch on a strap looks stupid to me while a slightly oversized bracelet looks like jewelry.
  18. Someday..... I wonder if they are going to put an actual piece of teak wood or any wood in the back of the Cousteau rep or if will be a printed image.
  19. I just told my wife to order one for me for Christmas. You better not have bought the last one!!!!!!!
  20. Yeah, It looks like even if it were rotated another notch counter clockwise, some of the markers would be off. Damn
  21. I've been pouring over photos of Joshua's Navitimer World White dial and comparing it to the genuine high resolution photographs in the June 2006 Watch Time review and I'm pretty hard pressed to find any differences that are meaningful. Maybe some subdial depth problems but that's always hard to tell from the phitos but right down to the cloud patterns on the holding ring of the decorated engraved rotor movement, this one's a sleeper 1:1. Joshua's Replica The real deal Pretty amazing
  22. Hopefully this one. Currently in a bidding war for it and hope to give it to my wife for Christmas without breaking into the son's college fund. 1930's Rolex platinum Art Deco with 62 diamonds and a fully serviced Rolex Marconi movement.
  23. Beautiful...Congratulations. Heuer, the real Swiss watch company. Not that I have anything against Tags, its just that the brand is known more by the "Tag" shorthand than by the part of the name construct that actually has the history.
  24. IWC GST Chrono This one's COSC accurate going on 4 months now. Thanks to Josh for photo and Paul for the watch
  25. Omega Broad Arrow White dial blue hands. I was hot as hell for it and it just doesn't get much wrist time. My wife hates the bubble crystal and constantly refers to it as 'your goofy looking watch with the dumb crystal". Tough to not let that kind of review keep it in the drawer. Flip side, the one I'm most impressed with that I didn't have tremendous expectations of is the IWC GST Chrono white dial gold hands. Cool, classy looking watch but I also lucked out with a top notch asian 7750. This watch, after adjustment, keeps better time than my genuine SMP Chrono. I've had it for about 4 months now and it runs a consistant +2-3 sec/day. It winds very smoothly in manual mode. Sharp, accurate timepiece.
