  1. Remove the back, let the watch run down, hold the rotor in place with a blob of rodico to prevent it spinning (tacked on to a bridge away from any moving parts natch) and you will have a stopped MVT.

The screw near the base of the crown is proberly the one you need. Usualy a few turns without removing it completely is enough to relese the stem as it may hold other stuff in place as well as the stem. As stated above, best to remove the stem in winding position rather than set anyway. Removing the MVT running won't hurt it but a little more care must be taken as you don't want to catch the running sec hand on anything so wait untill it's run down for best results.

  2. Hey Stan! Great to see you here at last. One of the largest omissions on the dealer list here (IMO) has now been addressed.

Folks, you can deal with this guy with total confidence. Stan is not just a great dealer but a great guy to boot. One of the two nicest guys in the biz IMHO. For you CONUS folk the service you will get from Stan is blisteringly fast. Two or three days will see your new toy in your hands (9 times out of 10). If it ain't, blame the PO 'cause Stan posts the same day as your payment comes thru. Even OS the times are lightning quick. Five days to OZ!

I could not recomend this guy highly enough.

    Regards, Col.

  3. ...legend has it that the flying dutchman was dead already.... :whistling:

    NAY!

Even to this very day if ye are in the right place at the right time and the sea is calm, the moon full and low in the sky ye can catch a glimpse o' the ship o' the damn'd sailing by. Sometimes she is close enough to hear the sound of wind in yon rigging, the slap o' sail on yard and the creak o' a ghostly tiller rope on rudder block. 'ware the low moon on calm nights oh friend o' mine because The Dutchman still roams the seven seas, undead!

He may be coming for ye friend o' mine, yea, best to make your peace wit the Lord before ye sail for ye may never return . . .

  4. thanks for the responses all.

does Davidsen make non-branded dials? I think I actually prefer that. I know i'm on RWG, but i'd feel more comfortable wearing a non-branded homage watch than a fake Panerai.

You refer to the Sea-Gull (the corect way to write their name BTW) ST-19 which is indeed a first class CN MVT.

Someone else may have to jump in but is there not a subdial spaceing issue here?

FYI some info on the ST-19:

The Sea-gull ST-19 is hand-winding, with a 21600 bph escapement and column-wheel chronograph actuation. Its origins lie with the purchase in 1963 by the Tianjin Watch Factory of the calibre 175 from the Venus Watch Company, Switzerland, for use in a watch provided to pilots in the People's Liberation Army Air Force. A few short production runs were made in the 1960s. In the early 2000s the calibre was resurrected, with numerous detail upgrades, as the ST-19. Early examples of the new calibre found their way into counterfeit Omega Speedmasters and thus gained the erroneous informal designation 'Lemania-clone'.

Several sub-dial layouts have now been added to the ST19 range, as well as power-reserve indication. There is also a skeleton version. Other enhancements are in development.

ST-19's are found in many brands in several countries e.g. Sea-Gull (China), Plazeon (Thailand), Riedenschild (Germany), Soyuz (Russia), Invicta (USA). The ST-19 is the only genuine column-wheel chronograph available in watches selling in the sub-$1000 range. It has a reputation as a robust movement as failures are rare.

    Variants:

    * ST1901: 2 register, small seconds at 9, 30 min counter at 3

    * ST1902: 3 register, small seconds at 9, 30 min counter at 3, 12 h register at 6 that mirrors the time-keeping hour hand

    * ST1903: 3 register, small seconds at 9, 30 min counter at 3, 24 h register at 6 that is not affiliated with the chronograph function

    * ST1904: unused model number, possibly being reserved for an automatic winding or true 3 register chronograph version

    * ST1905: 2 register, small seconds at 9, 30 min counter at 3, decentral power reserve at 4:30

    * ST1906: 2 register, small seconds at 9, 30 min counter at 3, decentral power reserve at 6

    * ST1907: 2 register, small seconds at 9, 30 min counter at 3, central power reserve indicator

    * ST1908: 4 register, small seconds at 9, 30 min counter at 3, date at 12, real moon phase at 6

  5. The boys at home are on a homage kick and have been buying quite a bit from jackson and getat. Jackson's dials are ten bucks each!

The watches at getat are great value for money, review of their 47mm Radiomir HERE Getat's latest offerings HERE The straps on the ones from Getat are worth the price of the watch, no kid. They are available seperatly as well.

  6. That's been safe-queened without question. Which suggests it may have its B&P as well. Which further suggests $28k is a huge undervaluation.

    This on VRF?

28k would seem to be a huge under valueation. I suspect this has been heavily restored. That dial has never seen much sunlight looking at the red print yet the lume is nicely aged. Does tritium yellow that way without UV exposure? It's just too good and you would be afraid to wear it as folk have said. Something not quite right here even tho the seller seems to be highly rated.

  7. Unless you have a tame master watchsmith on your doorstep there is no one else to send this piece to. You now own one of the best examples of a 'tona in existance that wasn't made in the Rolex factory. That piece is as goos as some of J&W's offerings (which shows you what a bargan you got BTW) and it deserves nothing but the best. ZM is the best so it's a no brainer.

  8. 'tis a little quiet since "the happening" ain't it? There are a whole 83 members on right now which is a bit didapointing after all the hard work that went into the upgrade. I think yu will find things slowley return to normal as folk find the old skin is back (well, close as possible). The quality of posts is as high as ever and that's what counts.

It is a shame how many appear to have taken their bat and ball and gone home. The members online to total membership says it all:

    RWG2 (that's here): 1 in 355.63

    RWG1.1: 1 in 74.5

    RWI: 1 in 40.31

Repgeek: Don't go to 'geek so have NFI what theirs is.

That is a bit wierd, it should be around the other two or a little better. FFS it was only an upgrade why so many jump'd ship is beond me but I'm shure they'll be back. Not shure where they went either, RWI and RWG1.1 are about the same ratio as allways 'tho 1.1 has improved a bit we're still growing so it is to be expected. Soldier on folks, I'm doing my best to add to the post count.

  9. Rolex?

    Sorry Pugs :)

I think the above is good advice. Those two seem to share the spotlight ATM. Read reviews of both and see which has the flaws you are most likely to be able to live with. You know the drill mate.

Oh, and make shure the one you decide on actualy has blue lume on both the hands and the dial. Aperantly this can not be taken for granted.

    Col.

  10. Yep, personaly I would test any watch, rep or gen that's been opened before taking it anywhere near water. Just to be shure. Especialy a relitivly expensive piece. POs tho are generaly reputed to be damn good out of the box.

Just out of interest Offshore tested my 18mth old noob sub today (my testers still in the sick ward). Never been touched but it has been soundly abused inc a good scrub down with thinners and a tooth brush a few times, overspray is a bugger. Tested fine to 4atm (133 feet). I'd still not take any rep near water untill I tested it but I am begining to think that the water restance of your average rep is beter than a lot of folk would have us belive.
