  1. greeting from Central New York, all.. 110 inches or so of seasonal snow so far - with an expected 14-16 inches arriving tonight/tomorrow..."normal" winter total average 120 inches - so we're in for a long one this year...anyhow, most of the seasonal snow is lake effect (driven by moisture off of Lake Ontario) which is light to deal with...this storm is producing the wet, heavy stuff...will put my trusted 30 year old 300 series John Deere under some stress - but hey, its the life we know... stay safe everyone... R
  2. nothing like a gen... wear it well!... R
  3. I believe the "recipe" is an old v1 case, 6-9-12 dial and eta7750... With the tri-compax rep dial and the older low-beat a7750, the dw is less sunken than the high beat a7750...updating to an eta7750 4.5 datewheel makes a big difference over the older datefont it came with...it's not perfect since its still sunken, but really slightly...and of course, the date isn't rotated for numbers 1-9 like the gen...oh well... In any combo, i don't believe an eta7753 will work... Search polexpete and importr posts...and there's a post about questioning the a7753 with tri-compax Navis and i beleive you'll find the info there... R- (updated)
  4. It has Lord By-Tor thinkin it was gen... Now all I need is "approval" from andreww and i'll be complete!
  5. thanks, Gents... it's amazing what a little chieftang double ar and Z's transplant of an eta 4.5 datewheel makes... this older version has the low-beat 7750 and a decorated rotor, too...runs smoothly and accurately...and the sunken nature of the dw in its window is less with this movement than the high beat... IMO, this one is a classic Navitimer - the arabic dial in black is simply classic Breitling...
  6. very cool... ideas...always getting ideas from all you guys!... thanks for sharing... R-
  7. welcome to RWG... my advice...get a couple bottles of wine and/or a six-pack of beer and hunker down for a few hours and begin the learning process...a ritual highly recommended... you have a long road of learning ahead - but you're amongst a mostly friendly bunch of horological eccentrics...enjoy RWG!... and soooooo glad that a Breitling and not a Rolex brought you here... R-
  8. Just looked at my calendar for tomorrow...one meeting at 10am...not in the mood...soooo, not anymore!... TGIF, RWG..................
  9. man...terrific post, Importr...pix, method and history... thanks for sharing the details... R-
  10. what was used to brush the parts?...what tool(s) and process(es)? where did you get/make/source a custom datewheel?
  11. i, too, was warned of posting qc pix and potential delays and relationship comments... i posted pix of the new 177 to show people how good it was...not to ask for second opinion or for it to be picked apart...it was simply to show the membership better pix than the stock crap pix... i didn't like the message i received, but withdrew the pix, out of respect for his request... R-
  12. terrifc post...thanks!... on the tri-compax rep, the date font isn't that nice, as you know...i had Z replace mine with an eta 7750 4.5 datewheel and it made a big difference...obviously the 1-9 numbers are not rotated like the gen, but the eta datewheel makes a big difference from the rep... R-
  13. hands too thick...rehaut numbers too large...inner dial numbers too large (13-24)...absolutely wrong date font...a21j movement...bezel engravings not crisp...crown protrudes too much...amongst others...
  14. hey R!...thanks...Happy New Year to you and J!... is the slide rule ring pressed inside the crystal or is it actually kept in sandwiched between the crystal and bezel?... R-
  15. hmmm...gotta check this out...i removed the movement and the outer slide rule ring was fitted inside the crystal...and, of course, the crystal is pressed into the bezel...i didn't think the ring was held by the crystal and bezel - i'll have to check that out...the crystal on this breitling rises slightly above the bezel edge...i actually thought the ring was pressed into the crystal...will explore this...
  16. ummm...there was a member - who i can't recall his name - that posted that he was able to remove the bezel on the steelfish by pulling it off - straight up with force...obviously, i've never tried it...i think both plai and i posted in the thread...will see if i can find it...
  17. pm or email Silix...i think these are still out there...he had them in a couple dial colors, too...altho, the black is accurate, others fantasy... kinda wears "thin" too... and as for the lack of date at 6...geez...with the general busy-ness of the dial - classic Breitling "detail" - who would really notice, ya know?!...
  18. it is really good...especially for a rep...and at the price i paid, adding aftermarket double AR doesn't make this very pricey at all...and with double ar, you'd have to be a very knowledgeable Breitling expert to recall the lack of date...but who cares, anyhow - it looks pretty darn good and the movement is bulletproof...
  19. hey Stace... Toad alerted me to this piece -- Silix was selling this watch new on clearance for a whopping $130usd...comes with a lemania/venus/etc handwind movement that actually has working chronos on the right and working crown on the left...which, as you know, is unusual to have them on different sides...it is 42mm and is very well built...the slide rule aligns, too...the major flaw on this piece is the lack of date at 6...and, of course, no ar on the crystal...as you can see, the dial is really sharp, but definitely obscured with the glare that comes with non-ar crystals... not a rep you see much and with little written about it...the gen was produced from 2006-2007 and discontinued in 2008....is a member of the Navitimer family...think it hit the rep market in 2007 - give or take...at the time, many collectors were turned off by the lack of the date window... here's a quick pix of the gen...
