I can only speak on my behalf. I got designer shoes through the Swedish customs without any problems. But I know the US one is a bit tricky. Best of luck anyway.

Tell him to send you quality pictures of the actual watch, with a note next to it with your name and todays date. Then you know he actually have that particular watch. But that said, it doesn't mean you'll recieve it. Buying on the net is sometimes very hard.
