  1. i know i'm late to the game here, but phew -- glad to hear you are OK nanuq.  as for ideas, i always thought find me SPOT was an interesting product / idea.  not the cheapest solution, but when you are talking life and death....

anyways, hope you are on the mend B -- your story is a good reminder that you can't be too prepared when going into the wild.

    all the best,

  2. hey buddy, good to see you back around. you'll find most of the members from years ago are still around (even if we don't post as much).

good luck with your 1665 build; there are plenty of really nice examples around these parts that should help immensely ;)

  3. great watch, and no apologies needed for your pictures (particularly the wrist shots) -- they look great :victory:

if you want to change it up you can always go for the kevlar strap -- it is a totally different watch on a strap ;)

  4. i don't know anything about josh's 5514 case, but i have a question that might help -- is there a reason you want to use the 5514 case instead of using the 5512/5513 case? do you want to make a 5514 comex with no-logo dial like ubiquitous made?

because if not, the HEV is incorrect for a 5513 dial. also, is your genuine dial an earlier matte dial, or is it glossy with white gold surrounds? if it is the latter, then the 5514 case would certainly be wrong for that dial.

    hope this helps somewhat :victory:

  5. +1> Hey B, good to see you. :)

thanks W -- it feels good to be back at RWG among friends

I like the small seconds so would the 005 still be a good choice? What is the quality of thr rep brown leather straps? Or is the rubber the best choice?

the 005 would definitely be a good choice; if you want to explore some other models there is a nice summary of some of the better panerai reps available these days in this post.

    all the best ;)

  6. this is a good (and understandable) question for someone just starting out; i'll weigh in and say that for me, for the 1:1 panerai versions that are under $300, i think it is definitely worth it. the fit and finish of these watches is most definitely a notch above -- having owned a genuine panerai, they certainly feel significantly more like the real deal.

as for which version to get, i personally would go with the zero (000); with the closed caseback, it is remarkably accurate to the genuine.

good luck and be sure to post some pics when you end up deciding :victory:
