  1. I do wish they would engage the collective knowledge and braintrust of the forum at an earlier developmental stage to help correct these small issues prior to going into full production. I think it would be a relatively small step that would be of great benefit to the factories, dealers and end consumer all said and done....

one watch that this seemed to happen on was the big bang, which marked angus' return to the rep game. not sure how many people remember the 20+ page thread with updates and criticisms along the way, but that was one of the only watches where it really felt like the boards had a real impact on the final product (and look at what a high quality replication the big bang turned out to be).

anyways, i know we would love to participate in these replications; i just wonder how much hassle the factories are really willing to deal with...

  2. Looks like the T SWISS T totally disappears in the case though. Is that how it should be?

    good eyes chief ;)

i know that for older gilt dials (ie. pcg 5512) this is very common, but i have no idea if this is the case for daytona dials. freddy, any insights re: genuine daytonas "cutting off" the t swiss t on the bottom of the dial?

  3. i guess i'm the odd man out here -- i think we're likely to see some top notch replications coming in the next few months. i think ubi's guess re: factories becoming more difficult to work with could well be true, which is why there have been delays on a couple of the highly anticipated reps that are supposedly due to come out this year.

let's not forget two (relatively) recent top notch reps that have come out: i) the ultimate deep sea seadweller and ii) the much-neglected santos 100 (which i still have yet to see a single review on -- i've been holding out on purchasing that watch until another super rep comes out). i'm sure there are more i'm not thinking about at the moment.

how quickly do we expect them to churn out these things?! :bangin:

  4. i went on vacation last week, and as i was in the taxi headed to the airport, i realized (to my horror) that i had left the house without picking out a watch (or three watches for that matter) for the trip. now i know my first mistake was not planning what watches i would be bringing along in advance, but i had been really busy leading up to the trip and just didn't have time.

anyways, here is my confession: i went an entire week without wearing a watch of any kind :o the horror!!:lol:

i was on vacation in the islands, so everything was on island time anyways. while it was certainly strange at first (i can't remember the last time i went more than two days without wearing a watch, no less a whole week), there was something really nice not having to worry at all about what time it was for a week.

so that brings me to my question -- what is the longest time you've gone without wearing a watch since joining RWG? was it strange, fun, heartbreaking...a mistake like me, or intentional therapy? what was your experience while you weren't wearing a watch?

looking forward to hearing people's responses :victory:

  5. the strap may be (doubtful though) a genuine buffalo from a 5002, but hard to tell from the dark pictures. as lobster said above though, the rep is pretty terrible. for starters, the datewheel should be black with white writing, not the other way around. not to mention the datewheel window looks tiny. caseback is all wrong too.

verdict: buy a bp 5004 from one of our collectors, then go about finding a decent strap (either OEM or hktan).

    hope this helps :victory:

  6. the general theme is nothing that just about every men's fashion maven/magazine has not been saying about 'big watches' since about the early 00s.

see that's the interesting thing to me -- if the big watch trend is just a fad, why are we still going strong nearly ten years hence, with nearly every major (including rolex) making larger watches? :g:

  7. i think if your heart is set on the 116520, then i would get one with the asian 7750 movement from one of our trusted dealers and send it to have the graphite treatment and hope for the best.

there aren't any "alternative" movements for this watch, and any quartz version you find is going to be too crappy for words.

    i hope this helps ;)

  8. first off, welcome to RWG :victory:

to help folks answer your question, is there a particular version of the daytona you're interested in? modern? vintage? :g:

unfortunately the movement required to get the working seconds at six subdial on the modern daytonas (e.g. 116520) is very problematic (ie. unreliable), so you risk buying an expensive paperweight going that route.

that is why you will see lots of people focused on the vintage daytonas (6263, etc), and while these can be modded to a high degree of accuracy, they can be quite expensive to put together. they are well worth the effort though (imho); click here for a thread on my dw daytona 6263 ;)
