A couple of years ago this would have been an easy one to answer, these days though the reps are so good, you can't really go wrong with any of them.

From the WM9/BK Rolex's, to the Noob Factory Pams, Breitling Avenger's.....list is endless!

My advice would be look at some gen watches that you like, narrow it down to one or two, then see if a rep exists and go for it. This way you're buying a watch you like rather than for the sake of it being 99.9% accurate.

The Review

Most of the watches I have bought have been very cut of the mill. By that I mean I have never bought an outlandish watch. A big part of me yearns for a Breitling Emergency in bright yellow just so I can slap it on the wrist and think “take that!” (not the boy band )

Then the new Seawolf came along in bright yellow. I found a grey version on the sales corner and tested it….but found it to be too bulky for my wrists. Click Here for a full review of that one.

Then Breitling released the new SuperOcean. My first impression was “ what on Earth have they done that for!” It looked cheap, and very generic. However, over time the watch grew on me. I tried on the gen at an AD and new the yellow one was for me.

I buzzed my favourite dealer (PreciousTime – thanks for the flawless deal!) and a few weeks later it was here on my wrist.

Welcome to my review of the Breitling SuperOcean 2010;

History

The SuperOcean first came to the scene in 1995. It was released under the umbrella of the Colt series and made to cope with the toughest of diving requirements…and was designed to meet the requirements of the Navy SEALS specifications. Various different colour options were then released, with a nice in your face orange (Coral) colour being released in 1997.

1998 saw the release of the Colt SuperOcean Pro with an increased water resistance level of 5000ft.

In 2000 the SuperOcean dropped the Colt name, and came with a COSC certification. In 2007, a revised version was released which increased visibility in low light situations through increased size of the lumed markers.

Background Information

The SuperOcean currently comes in 5 different colour variations. The one on review here is the yellow rehaut version.

The genuine also has the option of a bracelet. It is rumoured that the rep factories are working on one….I think it would be good to have both for added versatility.

Accuracy to the Genuine

Front

At first glance it’s hard to fault the new SuperOcean. As I mentioned in the introduction, I went to try the genuine on. If you had the two side by side, you’d be hard pushed at a very quick glance to see the differences. The build quality of this rep is very very good.

It is important to note that the bezel does have the same grey appearance as the genuine in certain lighting.

The crown doesn’t wind in quite as smoothly, and the lume markers aren’t as smooth as the gen….but that’s why there is a massive price difference!

The numbers on the bezel are done well, however, if you look very closely you’ll notice the centres of the numbers are smaller (or the numbers are fatter) on the genuine.

On the rehaut, the minute markers are a fraction too close to the dial on the replica, they sit further to the outside on the genuine.

Again, looking very closely at the dial numbers, the genuine has more of a sharper finish. Both the gen and rep share rounded edges on the dial numbers, however, the replica’s are slightly more rounded.

Onto the second hand….the yellow tip of the genuine has a smaller painted area. You’ll notice on the replica that the yellow section spreads further up towards the centre of the watch.

The last thing is the crown. Mine doesn’t seem to screw completely flush to the case (only a fraction). Also, it appears to be that the genuine crown is a tad thinner….or this could be an illusion because mine isn’t quite flush to the case.

The back is very well done indeed. The engravings polished finish looks very nicely done.

I can’t see any flaws. If there are any, they certainly aren’t worth mentioning.

Other

The rubber strap feels exactly like the genuine. Very soft and very comfortable.

The clasp is done very well and the Breitling logo is top quality.

Final Thoughts

This is a replica that certainly doesn’t disappoint. Although slightly smaller than most Breitlings, it wears very nicely indeed.

Having tried the black and the yellow on at an AD….I would definitely recommend the yellow. The black is smart and more versatile, but it is too alike other diver’s watches. If you want something a bit different to your Submariner’s and Tag 500m’s, the yellow SuperOcean is the one to go for. I find the yellow rehaut helps break up the dial/bezel and make it sharper looking….I found the black too plane for this type of watch.

I have a Tag Link Chrono that I need to replace the battery on. I usually send my watches to Domi but am a bit reluctant to send this one acros to Europe as I can't find anyone to insure watches...just wondering if you know of anyone in the UK who can replace a battery and pressure test a watch?

I went to the AD today to try on the gen. The yellow one is definitely the one I prefer. In the flesh, I found the black to be a bit plain. if it were a 45mm watch I think the black would be better suited. However, the black did look very classy, but a bit too similar to the 500m rep that I have.

I was also very surprised at how small it wears. Certainly wears much smaller than the Tag 500m. Suits my wrists nicely though so will cetainly be putting this in the shopping basket very soon.

Very nice, I am so close to putting money down for the black one, but now I've seen pictures of the different coloured bezel it really adds something to the watch.....now split between yellow and black

I have both the 500m and the MMD....they're both very well made replicas and great to wear. The Tag actually wears pretty big on the bracelet and it is quite chunky.

Can't go wrong with either in my opinion, also check out the new Breitling Superocean which some love and some hate

I have just found my love of this watch again. I would recommend getting rubber and bracelet for it. Both give the watch a very different feel and look. I had it on rubber and now have it on the steel and it has given it a new freshness in my collection!

When I first saw this one I disliked it as well. However, it has certainly grown on me, and is perhaps the only one of the "new school" Breitlings that I am tempted by.....would I buy the genuine though....defeinitely not, I'm with By-tor on this one, the SOSF is where it's at!

I too have never warmed to this watch.

I think it relates to your comments on the size of the watch head in comparison to the bracelet width.....it looks like some sort of weird mix and match. I'd take a good old Sub any day of the week

Hows things going. Thought I should make a post here to re-introduce myself to the newer members and say hi to the oldies that I see are still here

I've been moving around a lot with work recently, so when I do frequent the boards, it's usually a flying visit. However, I'm now more settled in one location and am hoping to spark my love of watches again....

If I'm completely honest, I got bored with buying watches, and was quite happy with the small collection I had. However, what I do miss is the interaction with the forum members and writing reviews of watches that I enjoy.

I see that there are still some good super reps coming along, and it's great to see that they finally released a good base Pam!? Where is that Omega Speedmaster that we were promised though?

My collection at the moment is a gen Tag Bourne, a gen SMP quartz, and the rep Tag 500m.

As I mentioned in ealier in this post, I'm on the hunt for a watch(es) that will re-spark my interest in the collecting hobby again.

I think that taking some time out has really allowed me to focus on the watches I really want, rather than buying and selling loads to try them all out.

So what do I have my eye on......

Breitling Seawolf, Rolex WM9 (hard to get now!?), and still the gen IWC Portuguese (one day!!)

Anyway, it's good to be back, and I look forward to the great interaction that I had with you all before my Lord Lucan style disappearance.

Once again Zigmeister, a fantastic review. One thing I don't understand (that you have also highlighted) is why they didn't take the E7753 and just copy it...must be much harder to construct a similar movement when you can just copy the parts in a mould!? All well and good until something breaks and replacement parts aren't about!

The Breitling Navitimer. This is the watch that first got me into the rep game. It is everything Breitling does so well, and this one has s much heritage, being a modern version of the classic 806.

It's best not to wind the A7750 movements, start them by giving them a genle whirl in the hand. However, winding it to get it started for the first time would not be enough to break it. It sounds like it might be a faulty movement. Just check you pushed the crown all the way back in after setting the time...it might be slightly out which would stop the movement.

If the crown is right against the crown get hold of Joshua and send it back for a replacement

That's a real stunner, I wish these were available in the UK. Do they run a downtuned version of the Type R K20 engine? I really miss the sound of a DOHC vtec engine....am looking to pick up a DC2 in a few months hopefully

Here's my gen A23322. I have owned the replica of this watch and it is not far off, just tiny things that add up. A good AR coating will mak a huge differene to the replica.

Nice watches to choose from but it sounds like you're very undecided.

Why not shortlist the watches down to three, use the money to buy the replica versions of them, try them all for a month, then pick the one you like the best, sell the reps buy the gen.

This way you will make the best informed choice. Sometimes buying a gen can leave you disappointed if it doesn't have the appeal you thought it would.
